apart from min system requirement whats the ultimate?

Post by luckyroo »

I'm aware there is a min system requirement with software packages but would someone know what aspects are worth reviewing to achieve the ultimate (well a V8) powered system hopefully the cost is worth the investment?

Well I guess the ultimate is whatever your pocket can afford!
Whatever system you get today will be out of date next week.

I remember upgrading my 750 megabyte hard drive a few years ago to a 4 gigabyte one and everyone at my workplace said
"Gee you'll never fill that!"

yep u r right. i've been using V10 for 12 mths what i have been able to do re movie making for friends/family has been enormously rewarding albeit time consuming.. but like most i experience the odd crash and conflict so i was wondering ... if my next computer is priority dedicated to ulead movie making .. what is the utimate ... priority on the tech aspects of the computer and then those weird codecs which is the best .... i seem to spend a lot of time experimenting ? ... is is this the reality of being a part time movie maker? .... again thanks for any comment.

To me RELIABILITY & STABILITY comes first and speed second.

Nice Cpu & MotherBoard combination. Good luck with the new machine.

absolutely agree re Stability and reliability. Thus i said to the IT people b4 i buy lets test the new quad and then thought quicker to ask is someone on the forum has already had the experience....

My own few cents worth :)

I recently upgraded from a P4 2.4GHz (not even hyperthreading), 1GB RAM, GeForce FX 5200. I now have a Core 2 Duo (Quad is still too expensive here) 2.66GHz, 4GB DDR2 RAM in Dual Channel, P35 Platinum Motherboard, all the HDDs are the same as the previous PC (1x 120GB, 1x 320GB, 1x 20GB) and I'm still using Windows XP (actually still need to reinstall properly after the upgrade).
I rendered a project that I needed a few minor changes on, and now added colour correction. The same project on the old system took over 18 hours, and on the new system took 4.

I'm watching the Vista releases, and plan to get 64bit Ultimate at a later stage. I see the Video Studio 11+ is one of the few NLE's in its catagory that will run on a 64bit OS (If I'm mistaken, please let me know)

Optimise you machine properly, get rid of those pesky utils that run when you machine starts, and above that, go for the best you can afford, and that will reap the proper benifits. I do a lot of video work, therefore a quicker turnaround means more work in a day, meaning I might just get paid :)

Have a good one !!!

64 Bit Operating Systems can run 32bit programs (even 8bit programs). It's just that a program written in 64 bit will run the fastest, if you can find a NLE written in 64 bit.

windows 32 bit will only utilise up to 2gb of ram, so it is pointless getting 4gb ram unless you are now using xp or vista 64 bit.
