Program crashes when importing anything!

Post by Sarcie »

Hello to you all.

I have tried to search for the answers but to no avail I'm afraid.

My problem.

Have installed Media Pro 8 and the update pack. The application starts ok... but if I press F1 or import a sound, voice or picture file it just shuts down. No warning, just snap... gone. I have tried everything.. updated all my drivers Direct x .... reinstalled about 5 times...

Please help

Sorry for any missing info

In the first place, I have always suggested that video work be done on a dedicated computer or, at least, on a dedicated system boot, if a dedicated computer is not feasible. IMHO, it is an error to mix video with other applications, especially Internet and security software.

That having been said, I have a dedicated computer for video work with ONLY video software on it and no Internet connection. However, the computer I am typing this on is my general office one with Internet connection, firewall, anti-virus, anti-malware, anti-spam, 101 diverse proggies etc. including Office 2007 Enterprise Edition. I also have MSP8, WS2 etc. installed on it. I don't use them for serious work, because I know the danger, but I do use them for testing purposes, often to suss out problems on this and other forums. I can assure you they behave perfectly with MS Office 2007.

You may have found a workaround, but I suggest you haven't found the cause and cured it.

I agree with the comments by Devil and if possible a dedicated video editing machine will give less (hopefully no) problems. Whilst this may seem to be not feasible to many at first glance it can be achieved quite cheaply in a number of ways.

Option 1. Install a second hard drive and use the dual boot method I describe here:
Dual boot the Steve Jones method cost = 1 new hard drive.

Option 2. Create a Video Editing profile as described here:
Creating a Video Editing Profile. cost = Nil.

Option 3. Purchase one or two hard drive caddies.
Outlined in This post Cost = 1 or more new hard drives plus 1 or more caddies.

For what its worth I have a ton of software installed on my computer alongside MediaStudio Pro. Some are listed in my signature block below, I also have Microsoft Office XP and dozens of other applications.
