chapters missing using VS8

Post by kiwi_fruit »

I am using V8 to create my very first home video.

I found the product very clever and easy to use, I have edited my video, included titles, music etc. and I am now at the stage where I want to burn it on DVD.

I went trough the Share -> Create Disc procedure.

I have tried to add the video studio project (create menu is ticked), I then select Add edit chapters, and using the auto option, I select the chapters that I'd like on the DVD. So far so good... however when I select Next to select the menu template the chapters are missing, I have got only the first image of my video.

I have searched the forum and someone suggested to conver the video studio project into a video first and then go through the routine to create the chapters from that. I have done this but got the same results, even if I can see my chapters when I go to the next step they are missing.

I have a long video 4.67 (4.35) MB so it is in the "yellow zone" lenghwise, could this be the problem?

Anyone has got any idea on how I can add the chapters to the video? Help would be really appreciated as overseas grandparents are awaiting IYKWIM

Hi

First you are best to Share Create Video File .
Then use the file to burn a Dvd.

In the burn module add your chapters.
The ¡¥Next¡¦ window shows the ¡¥Main Menu¡¦ at the top.
Drop down arrow will show the chapter menu.

Now customise the display using Layout to select the correct number of thumbnails.
Max 12

When you have finished your menu set-up, close the burner module.
This returns to the ¡¥editor¡¦
Now save the project, give it a unique name (my dvd burn)
When you open the project and return to Share Create Disc , all menu¡¦s should be preserved.

That¡¦s how it should work

Hope this helps

PS:- you may be able to disable the first main menu, as you have only one thumbnail it may not be of use.
I think selecting the ¡¥advanced¡¦ option may give the option.
Can¡¦t remember if this is pos using VS 8

Also watch out for the ¡¥Navigation controls¡¦ under the ¡¥cogwheel¡¦

Thanks for your post trevor andrew.

I was completely missing the ability to choose from the drop down menu and choose my video name instead of the main menu! doh!

I have now customised the chapters, but when I get to the next step (the one that simulate the DVD reader comands) somehow I get the default template (with only one video) instead of the one I have customised with 6 chapters ...

I have followed your instructions, closing the burner (I couldn't find a way of saving the work done so far), and then saving it. When I open the new project (my dvd burn) and I go through the share burn sequence, I can see my chapters (so it must have been saved), but as said, when I hit the play button, I see the default template.

Any thoughts?

Hi

When viewing the chapter set-up page
Select the ¡¥customise¡¦ option lower right.
Select ¡¥Layout¡¦ top right (drop down arrow)
Select the number of thumbnails you require, max 12.
Customise the rest of the page, add backgrounds, audio etc.

When you hit the play button, the dvd will display the main menu.
Selecting the single thumbnail (using the mouse) should display the ¡¥chapter¡¦ menu
Selecting a chapter thumbnail should play the video.

You may feel there is no reason for the single main menu.
Go back a page and select ¡¥Advanced¡¦ Uncheck¡¦ add title menu. (I assume this to be an option for VS 8??????)

That option is not available in VS8, the Advanced options appeared in VS9..
