I still have a question that is in regarding what is the best format for saving digital photos. What format is lossless and won't degrade due to compression, etc. I have read somewhere that TIFF and PNG are lossless format to save photos into...is that right? Your advice would be appreciated. The board is so useful for getting help on these topics.
Also, I have photos that I take on the highest resolution on a FUJI Finepix 6.1 Megapixel F10 point and shoot camera. They seem to be in JPG format. After researching, I see that JPG is not a good format to save, edit and resave due to loss and artifacts from compression. Can I take the original downloaded and unedited JPG and save into one of these lossless formats such as TIFF or otherwise and know that I have a good copy that I can keep for original archival? I don't think my little F10 takes in TIFF or RAW, only JPG...any help here would be welcome on best format to save special digital photos. Using PI11 at this time.
Question on PI11. Archiving family special photos?
