I have Ulead VideoStudio 8.00.0102 SE VCD and using the editor. I am trying to record video and sound from my video camera. I am using an
S-Video to connect the camera to the Ulead card. When I click "Capture Video" I only capture video. There is no sound during playback. My camera is a Sony HandyCam Vision Video Hi8. It also says CCD-TRV108 NTSC. There are also two jacks coming from the camera a Yellow and Black. Before I purchased the S-Video cable I tried to record using the Yellow and Black cords from the camera, but again no sound. I put Yellow to Yellow and Black to Red and also tried Black to White -No sound during playback. When I hook the camera up to my TV is works fine. I also have another camera with Red and White Jacks which match the color of the jacks from the Ulead card and it works great. Your help is greatly appreciated!!

Welcome to the forums,
S-Video is video only, it does not carry the audio signal. So if you're using S-Video, then you need to connect your audio cable(s) from your camcorder's audio line-out to either your capture card audio line-in, or your sound card's line-in. You might also check in the Windows sound manager, to see if the Line-In has been muted or is turned down.
Today most audio/video RCA composite cables are a standard color code. Yellow = Video, Red and White = audio.
Component Video cables are very similar to RCA composite, except they are Green, Blue, and Red. You can not plug a Component cable into a composite jack.

Thanks Videoman! Since the cords coming from my camera are yellow and black, should I purchase a new set of cords with yellow and red or yellow and white?
On my older cam-corder I have only red and white patch cords and they seem to work fine on that camera. The only options on the Sony camera is S-Video, A/V out and RFU DC out. I don't seem to be able to figure out how to hook up audio from the Sony. I do have a line in on my PC but the patch cords won't fit that hole.

Do you have the A/V cable that plugs into your camcorder? The end that plugs into your camcorder should be a small pin, the opposite end should have 3 composite jacks, which are plugged into your TV, or capture card.
The Red and Black should work for the audio signal. You could test them on a stereo system to see if they are faulty.

Yes I do have the AV cable that plugs into the cam-corder, small pin one one end- however there are only two composite jacks yellow and black on the other end. I've tried the connections several ways but still no luck. I plugged in yellow to yellow coming from the Ulead card and the black jack from the Sony, I plugged that one into the white and then red jack -no sound. I tried this again using the S-Video alone and using the S-Video along with the two jacks from the camera yellow and black jacks. I have tested the yellow and black jacks out on my Sony TV and it works perfectly. I'm just wondering if I need a new plugin for the Sony that has the small pin and 3 jack or at least a yellow and red or yellow and white so it matches the jacks coming from the Ulead video card.
Thanks again!!!
Thanks again!!!
Good! In that case, the camera and cables are OK, and the problem is on the capture (computer) side.I have tested the yellow and black jacks out on my Sony TV and it works perfectly.
The yellow is the video, which means the black is the audio. If the black connecter is the same type as the yellow-video connector, then it's mono (stereo would require two). If it's a different type of connector, it might be a stereo connector. I assume you only heard sound from one of the TVs stereo speakers.
Of course, the color of the cables doesn't matter, as long as video-out is connected to video-in, and audio-out is connected to audio-in.
Ulead doesn't make the video capture card, so we don't know what you have on the computer side. (Corel/Ulead allows hardware manufactures to bundle their limited SE software with various hardware.)the Ulead video card.
Does the video capture card have an audio input? If it has yellow/red/white connectors, the red & white are audio. Some capture cards require you to use your soundcard's audio-in. If it has an audio input, it might have "RCA jacks" that look like the yellow/red/white jacks on a VCR. Or, it might have a little stereo 3.3mm "mini phone jack" that looks like the connections to your soundcard, or like a headphone jack on an iPod.

Thank you DVDDoug!! I appreciate your help. Yes the black connector is the same as the yellow and I believe the Sony cam is mono. The capture card I have is ADS Tech Instant Video PCI www.adstech.com. It has S-Video conections as well as yellow, red, and white jacks or connectors.
I do have a "Line-in" on my computer, but there is no way to connect the the camera to the cards Video and Line-in on my compter that I know of unless Sony makes this type of connector. I will contact the mftr of the card tomorrow. Thanks again!
