Can't capture, capture option greyed out

Hi

I've sorted it out for my setup 8)

I unistalled VS11 using Control Panel,
Removed all traces of Ulead / Videostudio folders from the C: Drive,
Followed the advice in the following link:
http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... 5773#55773
Using regedit, removed every reference to Videostudio from the registry (there was at least 1 entry which included 'Videostudio 8',
Ran Registry Mechanic to make sure everything was OK.

When I then installed VS11 Plus from the CD, it installed without any pause at all at the AVControlSDK stage.

So .......... it would appear that there is a bug in VS11 which prevents it upgrading successfully if any trace of an earlier version is encountered during installation.

It worked for me, it might work for you!

You might be right in the case of your computer. But I hate to have to tell you that I installed VS11+ on a computer which already has (and still does) VS 8, 9 and 10+ installed. And there was no problem in the installation of VS11+. So I am still tempted to say there is some other factor involved here.

i went from VS SE7 to VS11 and i cannot caputure as well, just crashes

yes, all the obvious is ok - my comp sees the dv cam, all software is up to date, etc.

i can capture on any other program but VS11

i installed VS11 with VS 7se still on computer

i am going to try a clean unistall/install - and will let you know the results.
i first though it may be a Capture Plug-in issue with vfw, my firewire is a standard mobo TI IEEE 1394 port

I am a little confused by what you mean by 'vfw'. My only recollection of that is that it was the old Video For Windows system which was the original Microsoft competitor to QuickTime. But it was largely phased out by the late 1990s when the DirectShow/WDM system became the standard. Your camera is, while a good one, a little long in the tooth these days. I think it was released around 2003. At that time, there used to be a Panasonic VFW DV codec around which I know caused users with different brand or more recent model Panasonic camcorders some difficulties. You might have installed it with a camera installation disc or else in some mega codec pack.

You may want to download either of the freeware codec detectors GSpot or Sherlock and see if, among your video codecs, you have something labelled pdvcodec.dll installed. If so, I would rename it. If it is there, it could in fact be causing a conflict with the new VS11+ capture module which is called IVI Capture Component (though why Corel changed from the old Direct Show capture plug-ins, which worked well, I have no idea! )

VS 11 (Not Plus)

I have the exact same results that Cirrus (25/07/07) has been experiencing.

I have a Sony DCR-HC37E and I get empty Source and Format boxes and greyed out icons when I use the Capture Tag.

I get the same error messages when using the Tools->VideoStudio Movie Wizard->Capture and no Source and Format again.

Also nothing happens when I click Tools->Change Capture Plugin...

Under the Tools->Select Device Control my Sony is recognised. Not sure what to do with the other settings in the Device Control popup.

I, however, can capture using the software that came with the camera and capture works fine using Windows Movie Maker. Tried all the tweaks, re-installations that have been posted. So, I just drag my saved files into VS11 and proceed from there.

Must thank you guys for all the contributions, especially the one about creating a Video Editing Profile. Lots of long hours. Well done.

Regards,

Paddy

-virtual dub , i wasnt talking about playing the video, but rather seeing if there was some issue with the capture

I have the same capture problem. "unable to switch to capture mode" error. I did some checking on the web and found a post where Ulead says they have a problem with their new capture engine.

What caused this problem:
Original system was amd 3800x2, asus, raid, and Nvidia 6800AGP, Sony HRD-HC3.
VS11 worked fine with this graphics card, but MB blew and I had to upgrade.

New system : Only different product was ATI X1950PRO graphics card. With this card, the VS11 capture engine does not work!!!!

Confirmed this by going back to VS10+ and capture works with this card. So VS11 capture mode does not work with X1900,1950 cards and maybe more.

So when will they fix this problem????

Apparently Corel is working on a patch, but it's been months now and there is nothing to report. :?

In the mean time continue to capture with v10 and edit with v11.

changing AVControl from 1 to 0 in info.ini file

Post by Neil Harmon »

When you use the installation fix that changes AVControlSDK from 1 to 0 in the info.ini file you will be bypassing installation of AVControl which is the module that provides DV capture from your camera. That is why everything is "grayed out". There is no software to capture from the camera. Installing AVControlSDK separately doesn't seem to help either.

Corel has at least one fix for this. See the thread hosted by sjj1805 entitled "avcontrolsdk - Your Help Is Required"

Corel are currently working on a fix for this. Almost daily I am receiving emails that are circulating around the Corel staff involved in this.
Hopefully a patch will be released on the Corel web site in the near future.

My problem is fixed., and that is not because of the new patch...

I installed the new patch yesterday and disappointingly my problem persisted.

Today however I formatted my hard drive and installed windows xp professional again! (I already did that couple months ago with no success)
Then I got all the newest drivers for my motherboard including bios update, downloaded newest display drivers from nvidia and all windows update available.

Then I installed UVS11+... I was expecting the same "fatal error" problem I had before because of "AVControlSDK"... but surprisingly UVS installed itself without any problems and thats not all...When I started UVS everything worked fine, Capture option is not grayed out anymore. I'm now able to capture both with my analog capture card and my Sony DV camcorder.

I don't know exactly why it's working fine now, but I guess that my system driver update could have something to do with it.

Cheers,
Cirrus
