Can't capture, capture option greyed out
Hi, I just bought VS11 and I'm not able to capture with it.
When I select capture video, format and source is greyed out and I'm not able to select anything.
I have bt878 capture card and a Sony DCRHC94 DV camcorder, either does work.
When I select "change capture plugin" nothing happens... I'm not able to select any plugins.
I installed vs8 I have, and it detected both my capture card and camcorder without problems, also did my Nero 7.
When I go to movie wizard and select capture I get error message saying:
Capture module initialization failed
Capture manager initialization failed

My camera is connected via firewire cable.
If I turn the camera on with vs11 closed, windows detects my camcorder and opens a option window where I can choose vs11 for video capture and edit.
After the program starts, capture option is still greyed out, it is the same if I turn the camcorder on after starting vs11.
However if I go to "Tools \ capture options", device control is automatically set to MS 1394, and if I select "options" I can see SONY as an active device, but "source" and "format" is still greyed out.
Both Nero 7 and vs8 detects my capture card and camcorder and they do work for capture, but fore some strange reasons vs11 don't.

First confirm your PC recognises your camera/camcorder.
unplugg camcorder from Firewire port.
Start VS11, Go to Capture mode
Plug in Camcorder, make sure it's in play mode (not PC mode)
There should be a little flicker of something happening and options to capture should be available.
Try that sequence.

Thanks for trying to help, but it did not work
I'm wondering if for some reason no capture driver is installed in vs11.
If I go to tools\videostudio movie wizard and from there select capture this happens:
Capture module initialization failed
Capture manager initialization failed
[15200:12:0]
[15064:1:1]
I also get this message "Either no video capture driver is installed in this system, or no device is connected"
If I go to device control I can see my SONY camcorder there so my problem must be related to the video capture driver... right?
I can't select any capture plugin from tools\change capture plug-in, if I click on that nothing happens... I simply can't select any capture plugins...
So what do I do then?? can I get this plugin drivers from somwhere? Shouldn't they have been installed with vs11?

Yes the capture plug-in should have been installed with VS11, and probably was. I have commented elsewhere that it surprises me that the 'change capture plug-in' is even there anymore. Corel or InterVideo, after they took over Ulead, for some stupid reason changed all the various capture plug-ins that had worked happily in all previous versions, for a single InterVideo capture plug-in. If what appears in the 'change capture plug-in' pane is 'IVI capture component', what you see is all there is any more. Lots of us have other problems with that module, but capturing DV is not one of those problems -- at least, not that anyone else has reported...

Well if my problem is unique I guess it's unlikely to be solved in the future,Ken Berry wrote: Lots of us have other problems with that module, but capturing DV is not one of those problems -- at least, not that anyone else has reported...
It's hard for me to see if the problem can in any way be related to anything else than vs11, because as I mentioned other capturing products including older versions of video studio works... why doesn't vs11?

Device not recognised in VS11
Hi
I have exactly the same symptoms
VS8 worked fine
Windows sees the camera in My Computer, and in Camera Mode displays the scene the camera would record,
There is no device shown in the source box on the capture video option,
Tools > Change capture Plug in does nothing
I also get the same message selecting Tools > Videostudio Movie Wizard
You are not unique, Cirrus!

Device not recognised in VS11
Hi GuyL
Yes I've just done a complete uninstall and install and no change.
Doing this reminded me that I had a fatal error when installing from the CD whilst installing avcontrolSDK. I found a workaround in the forum which involved:
Copying the install files onto my hard drive
Editing info.ini, changing AVControlSDK=1 to 0
Running setup from the hard drive
Running utilities > AVControlSDK > AVControl.exe from the hard drive
The current status is:
Selecting Tools > Select Device Control > MS1394 Device Control > Options shows an Active Device of Samsung (my camera is a Samsung VP-D351)
There is still no device shown in the source box on the capture video screen.
Tools > Change Capture Plug in still does nothing.
Tools > Videostudio Movie Wizard shows the error messages reported before:
Capture Module initialization failed
Capture Manager initialization failed
15200:12:0
15064:1:11
followed by:
Either no video capture driver is installed in this system, or no device is connected.
If anyone needs any more information about setup etc, let me know.

Hi Ron
Yes, I carried out the work around under 22885
and have also lodged details for Steve Jones at http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?p=124247.
Whilst looking through the thread I also spotted

which recognises the absence of the 'capture plugin'.DiscoLED wrote:Svuppe wrote:Now I have tried it, but that didn't help.
However, I then went a step further. My suspicion has been around the installation of AVControlSDK. So I poked around a bit in the now unpacked files, and in Info.ini i found an entry called AVControlSDK=1. I changed that to 0, and tried yet another install. And to my big surprise it got all the way through. After that, I installed AVControlSDK by manually running Utilities\AVControlSDK\AVControl.exe
And now VS11+ trial works on my machine.
Such a kind of installation causes an absence of a "capture plugin" with VS!
