DVD Movie Factory 6 doesn't work at all but version 3 does.

Post by Radioman62 »

My friend was bragging about his New DVD Movie factory 6.
I only had the old version 3 (Disc creator)

He has a desktop PC and I have a portable Toshiba Sattelite 1gb memory 1.8ghz dual core and lots of harddrive.
I have always been satisfied with DVD MF 3 and used it on my older desktop PC as well with good results and stable behaviour, but there was some new fancy menus i liked the look of in version 6.

I hrmmm borrowed  my friends license and tried it on my PC. I first uninstalled the old version. ( I also have a license of Ulead Videostudio9 resting at the pc.)

I can't seem to get any working video at all out of the software :( My standalone DVD player, which is 4 years old and plays nearly anything, take ages to finally show the meny (but not any thumbnail or other motions) If I try to start a clip the player hangs.
The project was a couple of captured Donald Duck clips in VCD format. I have done similar projects before with other VCD clips without problem in version 3. Very fast, it just converts the audio to get DVD compatible.
I tried both NTSC clips and PAL but nothing works in version 6. Often there is just a black screen. No error messages from the player though. Same media as I usually burn with. I used the "6 vcd on one DVD" template, which is similar to what I used to do in version 3. The DVD's play so so on the PC's DVD player. Chapters doesn't work.

I then installed my old version 3 in parallell (another drive) with all update patches and guess what  It doesn't work the way it used either. I can walk trough the menus but when I try to play a clip the player freezes.

I uninstalled and the tried again without updates, then it works flawlessly again  If i try the first released update-patch I'm back to a non working DVD again. :? All my old burned DVDs works well.

I know I have an odd problem but I wanted to get it out and maybe there is someone else having similar problem. You know my wife is starting to wonder what I'm doing ... All this testing on the DVD player with Donald Duck clips  A 45 year old lunatic

Please, can someone tell me whats going on ?

Ridiculous and uncomparable

Post by Radioman62 »

I have done some more tests.
It's beginning to get ridiculous and totally uncomparable. :x

DVD MF 6 is totally impossible to do any DVD's that will work with my standalone DVD player. Not even straight videoclips without menus. I am glad I havent bought it ...

DVD MF 3 (Disk creator) works OK (with some small issues) if I don't do any upgrades of the available patches. Still, I am pretty sure it worked on my old system with the upgrades :? (?).

Yesterday I upgraded my old VideoStudio 9 with all available patches. When I used this software on my older system, 2 years ago I never used the "Create Disk" feature on the last tab "Share". Last night I did and guess what... It worked very well. I did a VCD conversion with "motion thumbnails" in the menu. It also had the "6 VCD's on one DVD " template.

It seems I don't need DVD MF at all ?

It's disturbing that almost all videorelated products from Ulead have a "Create disk" feature that looks similar but not really is. It definately works different in different products. I have confirmed it with extensive and tiresome testings.

Is there some conflicts between different versions and products? I haven't seen this before with Ulead. I have had several different versions installed at the same time without conflicting.

Ohoy, is there any one out there sharing some of my problems ?
edit
And I forgot to tell I'm usingWindows XP SP2 with all upgrades exept IE 7
