When I recieve files produced by Adobe Premiere, MSP8 sys they are uncompressed even though they are DV encoded. The files work fine. However when I am editing these files MSP8 acts really sluggish when I move to different frames in the video.
Could the sluggishness come from the fact that MSP8 is processing it as uncompressed video when it really isn't?
Has anybody experienced this? Any advice on how to correct this problem would be great.
Problem with AVI files from Adobe Premiere
I suggest you check out the size of the files. If they are more than 13 GB per hour, then they are uncompressed and not DV encoded.

Multiply the framerate by the frame dimensions by the colour depth, and you get the video bitrate. For example, for PAL D1, it's 25 x 720x576 x 3 bytes per second, or just under 30 MB per second.
Multiply this by the duration of your AVI (in seconds) and you get the uncompressed size, so one hour of uncompressed PAL D1 is just over 104 GB.
From here you can work out the compression ratio - just divide your actual file size by the uncompressed file size and the result is the percentage compression.
Edit: Forgot to say- DV has a 15% compression ratio
Don't forget to accommodate audio in all this - especially noting that DV has an audio stream even if you don't enable it when you save. DV type 2 has two audio "streams" - a stream interwoven in the video as well as a VfW compatible stream.
What does it say under "properties" when you right-click the AVI on the MSP timeline?

It really is DV encoded video.
The size of the video file is right for DV encoding. When I right click on the clip on the timeline it says it is uncompressed. For some reason the info is wrong but it does work.
Use a FourCC changer to check the fourcc of your AVI. It should be "dvsd"
