How to make a moving path smoother

Post by J'rome »

I need suggestions on how to incorporate a video clip (PIP) over my main video that moves from one side to the other and is smooth/fluid. I have used the "moving path" option but the image/video has rough edges and jumps across the screen as it pans from side to side instead of moving fluidly and smoothly. I rendered the file as an mpeg, lower field first, 720x480, 29.97 fps, and a constant video data rate of 6000 kbps. The compression quality is set at 100.

MSP 8 version 10.0039, Win XP SP2, 2 GB Ram, Pentium 4, 3.2 GHz

Thank You

Was the mpeg, mpeg-2 or 1? It has to be 2, otherwise, your asking for trouble.

No answer possible because you have not told us what your working format is before the MPEG-2 encoding. I suggest, if it is DV, you deinterlace your background and encrusted clips and, only when they are working as you want them do you render them back to DV lower field first. If the input is not DV, then there may be other problems, but then you may need to encode upper field first, depending on your file format. Please give details: I hate second-guessing.

If that's what you see on TV, it's a field order issue. If your destination is not a TV, or you're planning to use a progressive scan TV, then your project and/or source material is field based when that's not what you want.

Sorry for incomplete info. The final output is mpeg 2 and the original file is DV. I render using lower field first and the final destination is TV.
Here are the settings I use before rendering:
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
Lower Field First
(DVD-NTSC), 4:3
Video data rate: 6000 kbps
Audio data rate: 224 kbps
Thanks

Try rendering upper field first.
