MSP on COREL Web site!

Post by skyml »

Well, this can't be bad... Media Studio Pro 8 in now on COREL's own web site. Sent them this email and am awaiting a response.

"Have been a dedicated and loyal user of many ULEAD products since 1997 (MSP, DVDWS, Cool3D, Photo Impact, Cool 360, ect.) and am lost at the treatment of users like me in the recent changes that came. My biggest concern was that I bought Media Studio Pro 8 a few months before Windows Vista came out because my past experience with ULEAD had me believe the company would support it's products with the upgrade as it had done in the past. The ULEAD web site even states that "Ulead is committed to delivering Vista support for all its major products. For existing products that require it, we will be releasing downloadable patches, and for future versions, Vista compatibility will be built in." No product is more major then it's professional line (top end) products like Media Studio Pro and DVD Workshop and they do require patched to work with Vista. I have since Feb of this year received two emails from ULEAD tech support telling me to wait for the patch that will follow... it is now July of the same year and nothing has followed. COREL has promised to continue the support for ULEAD customers and so I am asking COREL for your support of both Media Studio Pro and DVD Workshop under the Windows Vista operating system. I spent a lot of money on this software and have been more then patient awaiting unfilled promises for both ULEAD and COREL and I need positive results here. While on the topic... ULEAD Photo Impact 12 promised full support for Vista and there is a patch for it. However - PI12 was sold with Photo Explorer 8.6 as if if were a part of the program and no Vista support has been provided yet. ULEAD sold me a package deal (PI12, Photo Explorer 8.6 and Cool 360) yet only part of that package has been patched to work with Vista. I await your response.
Sincerely, Mike Lanfor"

Will see what happens!

Perhaps if enough forum members send in similar emails to Corel something may get done. MediaStudio and DVD Workshop are my favourite products.

Users Rally for Support

Post by skyml »

Sorry guy's - I too hate to start this thread over. But I also refuse to give up on products that make my work easier and in a way better.

You said it right - 'if enough users band together and send similiar letters to Corel' then perhaps we as a group can help make something positive happen.

That might work in N. America. I don't think it would work here. The last time I tried to call Corel, I was hung up in a queue for 25 minutes at transcontinental phone rates and then the guy at the other end had no idea how to handle my question about Ventura. We need the e-mail address of the decider.

Highly unlikely something like that would work. I doubt you would get too many more responses than from those that already own and use MSP.

MSP appears doomed INSPITE of the present number of owners/users.

Write Corel and demand support for MSP and Vista

Post by skyml »

I recommend every user or potential user of Media Studio Pro and other (former Ulead) non-Vista compatible or dieing products contact Corel about the future of these products.

Even if you are not a Vista user or a supporter of Vista your cry for support can only help ensure the future support and the future existance of some products we all use and love - regardless of your perfered MS operating system.

There is a reason we are on this forum - please don't let Corporate politics kill our editing platforms.

Corel CEO David Dobson has sworn continued support of Ulead products and the website still puports that 'all major Ulead products will receive upgrades and or patchs to support Vista.'

Emails from Corel and Ulead Tech support still hint at a possible patch for MSP and DVDWS but at the moment all is at an apparent stand still.

It's up to us to air our voice. I recommend direct emails for the moment to April Chang (customer servise supervisor?) at "April.Chang@corel.com" who seems to be a good starting place for a common thread of request on this matter.

I am personally trying to get through to Corporate Headquarters at Corel to resolve this in our favor. I ask for everyones help!

Hi Guys

I agree with the general sentiments that to ensure MSP develops, we have to make ourselves heard. I'm happy to drop April Chang a line as a start and will copy it around. I seriously encourage others to do likewise because we will only affect any changes by telling Corel, in significant numbers, our concerns and wishes as customers - not each other as we have done ad infinitum on various threads here.

However, what is April's role and position at Corel? I ask this because I agree with Devil that we really need to address ourselves as well to the movers and shakers if we are to seriously achieve our objectives to keep MSP running and in development.

In this respect, can anyone out there dig up the e-mail addresses of any of the Corel executives, such as Randy D. Eisenbach in particular. It would seriously be worth making contact with him. He is the new President and General Manager of Digital Media and and responsible for developing and implementing all aspects of the Company's digital media strategy!
Thanks & regards.

My understanding is that April Chang is a Customer Support Supervisor but I could be wrong. I am working diligently with her and her department to to get this matter to the higher echelons and will post any contact info I find but please don't let me be the only source - if anyone out there has this info then please share it here.

Reply from Corel

Received this today from Corel -

"Thank you for your support, we have conveyed your sincerely opinions to Product Management Section. It takes time to assess all feasibilities for MSP and DWS conform to Vista. I¡¦m sorry can¡¦t give you a clear answer if MSP and DWS will release path or not. Apologize again for the inconvenience caused to you.

Regard,

April Chang"

This is opinion and purely opinion.

I suspect there may, in fact, be no development team associated with MediaStudio Pro... period.

I suspect the acquisitions led to major "workforce reductions" (if you know what I mean).

Corel has the code... but not much more than that.

I'm guessing it might be a big challenge for any software firm to re-assemble a team that could continue to develop the MediaStudio Pro product successfully.

Time keeps on slipping, slipping, slipping... into the future...

Broken Promises

Post by skyml »

Clearly the challenge is for Corel to fix this and make something out of it that would benefit. Considering the promises we were made by Ulead before they folded (http://www.ulead.com/spotlight/vista/runme.htm) and the promises (inherited by Corel) from Corel to us (http://www.ulead.com.tw/ulead/UDNews/pr ... leases.htm) to continue to support us and our products when they took over - the task is.... well, if no development team, a challenge!

Personally, I wish I had the skills to take these products myself and breath new life into them! Nothing has enhanced my ability to create video media like Media Studio Pro or DVDWS in concert with Photo Impact and Cool3D Studio - what a package!
