Voice Recording VideoStudio 11+
Hi,
When I start a project the voice recording works well. If I go to add voice later I get a device error - unable to open wave in device. I minimised VS11+ and used the windows recorder which worked fine.
Any ideas.
PS Great product - enjoyable and superb finishing touches.

I prefer to do voice recording with Audacity as FREE sound editor.
The after cleaning it up save it as a WAV file and import it into your Video Editor.

Sorta defeats the object don't you think?

I am pretty sure it is not a bug. The audio has worked well for me in VS10+ and VS11+, and consistently. However, like Steve, I tend to use a third party software (in my case, Nero Wave Editor) for most of my audio simply because it gives me so many more options. Audio recording in VS is as best rudimentary.

Many Thanks.
The considered opinion is that I use other software.
If it is not a bug what is it? The mic I am using is usb - and I cannot find any conflicts.
Any suggestions as to how I can resolve the issue within VS11+?

No its not a bug and yes the voice recording within VideoStudio works.Alan Davies wrote:Sorta defeats the object don't you think?

I tend to use a lot of software when creating videos and tend to use the best of what is available. VideoStudio - even MediaStudio for that matter are Video Editors. They include audio editing but to a very limited degree.
The link I gave to you is for a FREE full blown very powerful purpose built audio editor. If such an audio editor were to be included within a Video Editing program by default I have no doubt whatsoever that the forum would be swamped with complaints that the cost of the software was too high due to the inclusion of items freely available elsewhere.
A fine line needs to be drawn between cost and quality.

I'm glad it works for you. however mine does not.
I appreciate that a fine line must be drawn, how about drawing it between one that wotks and one that does not. Just a thought.
Does anyone have a constructive suggestion - or am I being told that other software is better - and what should I expect for the money?

Yes, you are being told that there is other software that does audio editing better than VideoStudio. The fact that you are getting an error is another matter.Does anyone have a constructive suggestion - or am I being told that other software is better - and what should I expect for the money?
You were given a solution to your problem. Despite the fact is was not the answer you were looking for, it is a solution nonetheless. In the time you spent arguing about VideoStudio's inadequacies you could have downloaded Audacity, recorded your voice over, and imported it into VS.
Audacity is a very fine, easy, and FREE, audio editior.

OK Jeff,
I appreciate that Audacity is very fine and free - my original question was about an error I am getting. and how to resolve it.
I have already got around the error - but are you not interested in what is causing the error?
If others users are having a similiar problem then it may be worth looking at. As I said when I first posted - it is a great program and exceptional value for money. It would be even better if this error was fixed.

If you had done a search for "wave in device" you would have found several threads, some of which are similar to yours.
Try these for starters:

Ok Jeff
Looked at threads - seems I'm not alone. Problem exists. Tried the wave in volume, tried the device manager and test - works fine elsewhere - just not in VS11+ consistantly. As stated I can work around it.
By the way - looked at several threads - but couldn't find the answer - still can't.
Thanks for your consideration anyhow.
