[crosspost] Nested timelines and virtual clips

Post by Gorf »

[Already asked this on the mug-sw list, but no response yet]

I've just started my first foray into the world of virtual clips and have hit upon a slight snag. I put a pair of AVI clips on the nested "Timeline1" and then I closed it, creating the [Timeline1] virtual clip on the [main timeline]. Then I double-clicked [Timeline1] and made a quick edit, halving its duration. There's no change to the length of the [Timeline1] on [main timeline], though. It stayed the same length. If I scrub the virtual clip, it shows the edit as it should, but the second half of the clip is black.

According to page 57 of the user manual, "After you have finished your edits, all of the changes will be automatically updated into the virtual clip in the Main Timeline." Am I missing a step? It all seems a bit pointless if I have to delete a virtual clip and add it again if there are changes which affect the duration of the clip.

Unfortunately, I believe that is just how it works (not that it's the right thing to do)

Thanks, George. I figured it might be something like that because when the length of a virtual clip (or, indeed, an AVI) changes; MSP has no idea how to deal with it. I'd have expected something like a multi-track ripple effect to be used.
