I've split scenes to take parts out and when I try to insert a transition after it I can't because the preceding clip is to short. Is there a way to join/combine the clips to make them long enough.
Any help greatly appreciated. Mike.

MikeB51...I some times have the same problem. Try taking a snap shot of the last frame of the first short video clip, by using the feature "Save as Still Image". Add the snap shot to the end of the first short video clip. This is a bit tricky cause you first have to add a color clip to the first short video clip. Then drop the snap shoot in the video overlay track to match the length of the color clip. Now you can stretch the snap shot to match the same height and width of the last video frame. Now add your transition between the modified first video clip and the second video clip.
Hope that helps

You could also shorten the transition.

Depending upon the content of the clip another way is to alter the speed of the clip so that it plays in slow motion and thus increases it's length.
There isn't one answer to this problem but it is a matter of working out which solution is the most appropriate for the clip in hand.
Available solutions are.
1. Alter playback speed.
2. Place a second copy of the clip immediately after the first and use reverse motion on the second one.
3. Save as still image the last frame then tag it onto the end of the clip to effectively lengthen it.
4. Shorten the duration of the transition.
5. If the clip is so short consider
a) deleting it
b) using a straight cut.

Good one, Steve. Always more than one way to skin a cat. Who'd want to skin a cat anyway?
