Serial number when part of VideoStudio bonus CD

Post by DLA »

I bought UVS 11+ and I have WinDVD 8 Silver as part of the bonus CD. Where do I find the serial number from it ? I bought from element5 and I didn't find the serial number in the e-mail from them.

You don't have a serial number for it.
To install WinDVD you cannot use the separate setup.exe in the sub folder WinDVD8 Silver - that one asks for a serial number. Instead run the setup.exe in the root of the disk - or in the case of an internet download

Install Doesn't work

Post by Cyberdude »

I also purchased the VS 11 + package - as a download. I had been trying the VS11 trial, and decided to purchase the plus version - for one reason to get WinDVD. After downloading the three executable files, I burned them to CDR for safekeeping. I then installed them from the CDR. I installed the program and the content packages without incident. When I installed the program it detected and uninstalled the trial version. It also prompted me for the registration key which I provided.
The bonus info was a different story. When I started the exe file, it was obvious that this was not the install program itself, but a self extracting archive. It prompted me on where to unarchive the contents using the CDR drive a the default. I changed it to a temporary folder.
After extraction, the autorun started - a good sign (I thought). The setup menu appeared and from this I installed the WinDVD 8 silver program. It completed without protest or incident. However, when I went to run it for the first time, a dialog box popped up stating "Your trial license period has expired. If you have internet access, you can purchase a full version online.
I contacted support on this and am still getting a run-around - they are technically incompetent. The last response included a link to this forum and post. Are they depending on user's to resolve their technical problems? Talk about outsourcing!!!
Anyway, I uninstalled the program using the technique described in another user link they sent, and then started the install again from the autorun program - still the same results.
This bonus material is haphazardly bundled with no install instructions. The audio, video, and image extra content "install" simply opens an Explorer window showing me where the unarchive process had stored them. It took four posts on the "support" email system and pleading that they promote this issue to a second level technician before they told me where the files need to be placed for the VS program to recognize them (still haven't tried it yet to see if this works). Not much of an install program!
I just hope this isn't the start of a long series of support nightmares just to use the program as it was intended.

Locate the download file uvs11_bonuscd_(e).exe and use winzip to extract it to a folder. If you don't have winzip then simply download a free trial version of it from http://www.winzip.com/downwz.htm

This will create an installation CD style directory structure with a root directory containing the following files
Autorun.exe
Autorun.ico
Autorun.inf
setup.inx
ulAR.cfg
There will also be folders:
Audio
Image
Setup
Ulead Disc Image Recorder
Video
WinDVD8 Silver

Do NOT fall into the trap of opening the WinDVD8 Silver folder and running setup.exe - if you do you will be prompted for a serial number.
Instead run the file in the root directory autorun.exe which will bring up a menu. Install WinDVD8 Silver from that menu.

If you are still having problems it is possible that your earlier atempts to install have caused some minor corruption on your computer and/or registry. If this is the case then please follow the clean re-installation procedure

Can't run after install

Post by Cyberdude »

When I ran the download executable that you name, it created the folder structure that you describe. Following that, the autorun started automatically and then I installed WinDVD from the menu as you suggest.

When that didn't work, I uninstalled per another post, went to the folder structure that you point out, ran the "autorun" and tried again.

At no point did I ever run the install from the WinDVD folder directly! I never installed a trial version of WinDVD. Why then, am I being told that my trial version of this program has expired?

That said, I will try the re-install from the link you suggest, but I don't have much faith in this point in getting this working, and Corel "support" has been no help at all! I should not have to be addressing a forum to fix an installation problem! This does not bode well for future help.

BTW the Video Studio is registered and appears to be working okay at this point.

WinDVD Silver still a no go

Post by Cyberdude »

I uninstalled the WinDVD and tried to follow the suggestions to remove - through regedit and manually deleting WinDVD folders on the harddrive - none of the things I was supposed to remove existed after running the uninstall. I thought that NOW it would work. Built the Bonus CD folders using the Winzip as suggested, but with the same results. The WinDVD simply will not run after a successful install without a need of a license key.

What a piece of c**p as a bonus!!!

I'm not even sure if it is worth it even if it was successful. Just out of curiosity, I went to look at the requirements for the commercial package and I can't find support for Windows Vista. It was bundled with Video Studio 11+ which is tooted as fully Vista compatible! Talk about bait and switch - this is a scheme to get you to spend extra bucks on the Plus version when in reality you get nothing for the money! Stay away from the Plus version if you have Windows Vista!!!! :x
