The point is that, as I said earlier, this is the first time I have heard of this particular problem. I have VS11+ and WMP11, and there is no apparent conflict. No one else seems to have reported this same problem. To be a bug, a problem has to be replicable. And again from past experience, it is difficult to convince Corel/Ulead tech support that there is even a problem, let alone a bug, if they cannot replicate it... if they even try!

I am afraid that if you do submit a tech support form to Corel/Ulead, if they do in fact respond (which on wide experience, is not always the case), their usual response is simply to say 'reinstall VS'. At most, they might canvass some of the other suggestions already made here, to no avail.

Understood, Ken.
Out of curiosity, can you successfully open the AVI file I uploaded to my website? The link is in a post above. As I've indicated, other AVI files load fine, it's just this particular flavor that causes the problem on my system.
If you can load that file in WMP 11 without problem, with VS11+ installed, that would tend to argue against an inherent conflict. It might require a particular set of installed codecs or applications for it to occur.
I posted a question on the MS Usenet group for WMP. No replies so far.
Thanks.

Thanks for the info, Ken. Your experience does muddy the water as far as my trouble-shooting, despite the shot being take in clear water!
One post I found indicated that installing the CCCP Codec Pack fixed their problem that sounded similar to mine. Any familiarity with that?
BTW, this little clip was taken during a trip to the Galapagos Islands last September. Awesome place! I used my son's Canon S1 IS, in Canon's matching underwater casing, using the camera's movie-mode, while snorkeling. I shoot with a Canon DSLR ordinarily, but it would be expensive to get the casing to take that beast underwater!
I see in your bio that you have an interest in photography as well. I don't know if that extends to nature, but that's primarily what I shoot. Many photos and information on my website:

I'll re-post if I discover anything else, but it's beginning to look like I might have to live with this glitch if I decide to purchase VS11+. Actually I only need/want the non-plus version, but I'm guessing I'll encounter the same issue there as well.
Thanks again for your interest and help.

Be very wary of mega codec packs. They are more often than not made up of every imaginable codec, thrown together with no thought as to whether they will work together, or conflict with each other or codecs already installed. More often than not, they cause more problems that they can solve. The only time I have used such a pack, I knew the exact codec I was after, and did a customised install of only that single codec.
As for the Galapagos, that remains one of the major regrets of my life. I studied Spanish in Ecuador, and had planned on getting over to the Galapagos by boat from Guayaquil. But in the event other things diverted me to Venezuela to look after our Embassy there. At least while there, I took a fabulous river trip past those 'Land that Time Forgot' tepuyes up to the Angel Falls -- which almost made up for not seeing the Galapagos! Wonderful photos too, though sadly I didn't have a working video camera at that time...

That confirms my initial reaction as well. Sounded like a "shot-gun" approach, rather than a clean, surgical incision.Ken Berry wrote:Be very wary of mega codec packs. Just FYI:
I did a full uninstall of VS11+, and Windows Media Player now plays the MJPEG AVI's without problem.
Clearly, something in the VS11+ install is creating a conflict on my system. I have been unable to track down specifically where the problem is. My post at the MS WMP Newsgroup has not received any replies. I also pm'd the Ulead Moderator shown here, but no response there either.
If anybody has any further ideas or suggestions on this problem, please let me know.
