windvd5

i have had my computer and windvd5 for over a year with no problems until now.
when i open up windvd5 i get only a black sceen not the usual controller. when i insert a dvd and after being prompted by windows to play dvd using win dvd it plays but no controls are present at all. i have wmp11 , newest quicktime, real player , directx9.0 windows installer2 etc. why wont it work properly now. please help. thanks,steve stv357.
