Old Videos

Post by auldyin »

I am in the process of digitising some (a lot) of old betamax and vhs tapes of rugby and cycling and wish to tidy them up, use titles, transitions etc.

Trouble is that the very bottom of the screen after capture (and on the original) looks as if it is part of a frame (probably immediately after sthe current one). This is only a very small strip and possibly others would not notice it. Difficulty is, I do and its becoming annoying.

I think that it is something to do withe slight variation in screen sizes but I am very, very new to all of this!!

Any way Studio 11 plus can remove this?

Cheers

Yes, that is normal.

What will the finished product be viewed on? Normal TVs have an overscan area so that distortion would never be seen.

If you really wanted to you could use the Crop Filter to crop a bit of the top and bottom of your clip but, as I say, this is an unneccesary step if it is to be viewed on a regular TV.

As mentioned by Black Lab this is normal.
Have you tried adjusting the tracking of your tape player?
Another thing to try is a tape head cleaner.
Sometimes this helps but a lot depends upon the condition of the original tapes.

Just as you both suggested, the DVD does not have the "problem"

Thanks
