Ulead DVD Workshop 2: Poor Quality DVD Output

Post by IIAdrian »

I've got a bit of a query regarding PC performance and DVD output quality using Ulead...

I've used it to encode a 1.8GB .mov file (produced in house) onto a a DVD, but am finding that the image quality is less than great.

What's confusing me is that I've encoded the same file using (as far as I can tell) the same settings on a workmate's computer and the DVD comes out perfectly. I've also encoded a smaller .mov file (300MB) on my computer with no problems.

So my main question is this: is the most likely cause for my crappy DVD output the not-too-hot spec on my office PC?

Here's the spec for my PC...
Intel P4 2.2GHz
512MB RAM
ATI Radeon 9200SE (drivers are a few years old)

And my workmate's which produces perfect DVDs...
Intel Pentium D 3.00GHz
3070MB RAM
2x ATI Radeon X600 (drivers are about a year old)

I also have screenshots to PM if anyone's interested.

Thanks in advance!

Possibly a field order problem. What were your a) your mov vharacteristics and b) your encoding settings?

Problem solved now.

The first time I tried the mov file it was a 1024x576 resolution. Re-encoding it from the Final Cut Pro project into 720x576 produced perfect results.

Seems DVD workshop was struggling to reduce the number of lines to DVD standard 720 without dropping the quality.
