How to blur clip edge & still maintainin the centre port

Post by Banji Abereoje »

Hi ALL,

What effect (or effct combination) is applicable, if I want to do something like blurring only the edge of a video clip in superimposed track, still maintaining the centre portion of the same clip showing normally. How do I go about it? I’m not referring to Chroma, Luminance, etc.

Your prompt response we'll be appreciated.

I have acheived this same effect with a video matte. Basically, create a mask in a paint program, and use it as a mask. The trick is, to use a copy of the video on a second track, masking the underlying video of the same track with a blur filter.

Can't you just use the "soft edge" feature of moving path?

Yes you can, but, using a matte, you can achieve a better result, depending on the circumstance of the video. In example, I used this effect in a wedding shoot were the matte was a heart over the bride.

As you found out, they removed it from MSP, in version 8. It is now offered as a stand-alone application, called Video Graphics Lab. You can get it here:

Do I because of this go & buy MSP7 again
Do you already own MSP7? If so why would you need to purchase it again? If you do have MSP7 (full version, not SE or VE), then you should be able to use Video Paint or CG Infinity. You may need to have MSP7 installed to access or use them.

Another option in MSP 8 is to click on the production library and then open up the masks folder. From there you pretty much can accomplish what you need..
