WinDVD 8 not loading under vista ultimate

I switched to vista ultimate, and all my software runs fine except for windvd. When I place a disk in the burner and then double click the icon the windvd screen comes up but has the following message in the upper left corner "Failed to open audio device". At this point my machine crashes. Can anyone help? I get the same thing when I right click the icon and click 'run as administrator'.

Did you check to see if your sound card was Vista compatible before installing Vista? perhaps you need updated Vista Sound card drivers.
