can I add an image that remains across each frame?
I am trying to create a highlight DVD for my son to send to college football coaches. I have seen other kids highlight tapes and they have a cool little feature where they have a red box around the player while the video is running so you can easily see which player they are highlighting. I have also seen it done with an arrow on the screen instead of the box. Does VideoStudio have this ability?

In short, no. See this link for third party products that can do this. It's call Moving Parts and is under the Utilities & Plug-ins section.
An alternative that would work in VS would be to use the Light Video Filter to highlight the player for a moment, while slightly darkening the surrounding area. You would have to use customized keyframes and values to focus the light on your person of interest.

I should also mention that you could still put the box around your son or put an arrow on him to point him out, but VS will not automatically move that box or arrow to follow the subject. You could, however, manually do that frame by frame. Tedious work though.
You could still put the box or arrow on him just to point him out, then let it disappear. I'm sure the coaches, once the subject is pointed out, could follow the subject amid the action.
