Audio Too Loud

Post by astrovideo »

On the few projects I have done so far, I have noticed that the music (MP3 files) that I drop onto the audio track plays back quite loud in the finished product. I find that I have to reduce the volume to 75% or so just to get it down to its original/normal level.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Thank you.

Do you use the Normalize function at the burn stage?

If it's not selected by default, then I guess not. Is that what that function is for? I am using a single audio source. I thought Normalize Audio was to equalize the volume levels of different audio sorces/files, so there shouldn't be peaks and valleys.

Some people have reported problems using MP3s. Usually it's that they don't work at all, but maybe this is another associated problem. Try converting them to wav files and see if the problem persists.

What you haven't told us is whether, when you drop the music into the project, you adjust its volume during the editing stage, so that it is in what you want as the balance between it and the existing audio on the video track?

In the few projects I have done so far, there has not been any audio on the video track (slide-show type projects), so the audio track I drop on is the only audio in the project.

I have noticed that EVERY DVD I burn using VS play much louder on my DVD player than commercially produced DVDs and the volume of TV broadcasts as well. I always have to reduce the volume when playing my own movies. I mean all sounds, sound recorded by my camera and music files added during editing.
I thought that it was just part of how VS worked.
I have seen the normalise sound 'button' but have never tried it as I thought that it might result in sounds being all the same volume and sometimes you need low volumes and other times louder volumes. Does normalise result in all sound being at the same volume?

This thread has a good discussion on Normalization.
