VS 11 - create video file takes a while
When I select - "Create Video File" - from the Share tab - i.e the icon with the movie real - nothing happens for about 1 minute or more - it seems that the system has hung - then the dropdown window is shown - with all the selections. Is this normal. The project is made up of 3 minutes and 20 second video - all 1 second clips?

My own impression is that VS11+ is slower to respond than some previous versions, and particularly on computers running Vista. However, I see you are using XP and have more than enough RAM, so I am at a loss to know why you are having such unacceptably slow response times.
As a test, I have just started VS11+ loaded on the computer in my System button below (which runs XP Pro). As usual, it took ages to open (30 seconds to even get the splash screen then another 40 seconds to get a usable working screen. The computer had just been freshly booted with no other programs running.) But once open, I loaded some DV clips into the timeline, then pressed Share > and it took less than 4 seconds to get the drop-down menu listing all the possibilities, and less than a second, after I selected DVD, for the optimiser window to appear. So yes, your own response time, particularly on that computer, is inordinately slow for that process.
I am not sure, however, what to suggest apart from the tried and true 'reinstall'. But you might also first want to shut off any background programs -- even though with your set-up, you shouldn't have to. And of course make sure your HDD is defragmented.

Thank you for the response. The OS has just been re-installed with only VS 11+ installed - as I had massive issues with Studio before that and I thought it was time to refresh the installation to get over the Studio issues. However the Studio issues were still there. I then installed only VS11+, no other apps - other than Norton's AV. Therefore the OS has just been re-installed. I will try defrag - the temp area? - for preview - as setup in the preferences? Should I have many of these? After I have selected the type of video to be created all is fine.. Will get back to you after a defrag. May even try a removal and a re-install of VS11+.
Thanks once again.
Thanks once again.
OK - I have just defrag'd all of my drives - just for good housekeeping. I have removed and re-installed VS 11+ and when I select to make the movie the menu takes a little less to come up - but it is still over 40 seconds.

Thanks for the reply - I changed it to 1 minute - 60 seconds made up of 1 sec clips.. so around 70 clips... Acted in the same way!!
What I will do is use a larger clip - but only one & see if that makes a difference.... will let you know what i find.

This sounds like you have a hardware problem.
Check your IDE cables from your motherboard to your hard drives. even though they may visually appear intact given them a firm push with your thumbs.
Next check the fans inside the CPU to make sure they are not clogged with dust. Remove your RAM chips and then reseat them.
If this doesnt help then other suggestions are:
Create a Video Editing Profile
Troubleshooting your computer
I still can't get my program to work
