DVB digital TV to DVD

Post by Dead Dog Dave »

Has anyone got any tips on workflows using Video Studio to create DVD's from DVB digital TV captures ?

Whenever I try to do this for a 1hour video clip, it appears to involve a 8+hour conversion which appears to take my 2GB MPEG capture, and convert it to a 4GB MPEG temporary file in the 'convert' directory, before proceeding to create the AUDIO_TS & VIDEO_TS directorys beneath the BurnTmp directory, whereby it starts to create about another 4GB of .VOB's.

The original MPEG file in this instance is created using a Hauppauge DEC2000t digital terrestrial receiver which I believe creates PVA format MPEG files as opposed to PS format ones. Video Studio appears however to accept these PVA format files and allows one to edit them normally, but as soon as the DVD creation process starts, it goes through this time-consuming conversion process.

I'm therefore interested in finding ways to avoid/reduce this conversion process.

PVAStrumento appears to be able to quickly convert between PVA and PS formats, however Video Studio still appears to want to go through converting the file to an intermediate one.

Dave,
When you use PVAStrumento and import the pva file check the
format to see if it's in dvd compatible format. It may not be in
DVD specification format which will force VS to re-encode the file.

The program will also fix a mpeg stream that has audio problems.
You need to read through all the help screens. Import the mpeg2
and export it.

When you import the video hit the "Info" icon and check the properties
the file was recorded in.
If it's dvd compliant then VS shouldn't re-encode unless you have the
option "Do Not Convert Compliant Mpeg2 files" UNCHECKED.

Nice program.
