I posted a question on their technical support service over a week ago (Video Studio quits to desktop when I try to open a specific file that opens fine in other apps), and relatively immediately got a canned response saying things like "make sure you aren't running any other apps", etc..
Naturally, that didn't help, so I re-opened the request, and nothing since. I've since opened THREE other issues just asking them to respond to my original issue, and I even included THEIR reference number to refer to the original issue.
Two of these have NEVER recieved a response, and the other one got a response saying that they can't find an issue with the reference number I put. But I can! And I copied/pasted it, so it's not a typo, and it's definitely still in their system. What a copout. I am so upset I wasted hard earned money on a product that they won't even respond to my request for help with a major CRASH to desktop.
Do NOT buy Ulead products! They do not support them!

Well, you have now discovered this Forum (which is staffed by volunteers, by the way, who have nothing at all to do with Corel/Ulead).
So if you can give us more details about your problem, maybe someone will be able to help. Tell us about the problem file -- right click on it within Video Studio and copy down its properties here. Tell us about your workflow and your computer set-up. Tell us also what version of VS you are using, and what your computer operating system is...

Thanks, Ken.
Since I'm at work right now (Video Studio is at home), I won't be able to get the properties specifically until this evening.
I'm using Video Studio Plus version 11.
But here's the issue:
I have a Sony HDR-SR1 hard drive HD camcorder. I copy the hard drive contents to the local hard drive. Then, I use VS to "Import DVD folder" on the AVCHD folder in order to access the HD clips.
This works just fine in most cases. But the last case, when I click on the AVCHD folder in VS, VS just quits. No error message, no delay, nothing. It's like it's got a stack underrun (I write Windows software for a living and am familiar with this type of crash). But just with this AVCHD content, and Sony's software can read it just fine.

filesize problem?
Hi!
Do you have files exeeding 2 gb of filesize? That might cause some instabilities. That happened to me only if I build an .iso image or anything that uses the mpeg2 encoder
BTW the Video studio product line seems to be the entry drug - lot of people I know that their probs disappeared if they upgraded to Media Studio pro when persistent problems occured with LARGE projects exceeding some internal capabilities of the VS.

Thanks cameater.
No, the largest file is just under 500MB, so that's not it.
Regardless of whether Media Studio is better, I'm wary of ever buying anything from Ulead or Corel again with the way their tech support has given me NO support, and even denied that I have a request in their system (how come I can still find it, then?).
So, I upgraded to Vegas. Funny, it works just fine in Vegas.

I had a problem pop up out of the blue importing AVCHD files that would give an error (forgot what it was), close UVS11+, and switch my resolution to 640x480. Did a google of the error and found I needed to reinstall my video card drivers. I did, and the problem went away. It might help with your problem?
If you search the VS forum many have reported workarounds due to the index file or some files that reside in the AVCHD directories. Some say reformat the drive in the cam and copy the new index file on the cam to the avchd folder on your harddisk. So, I upgraded to Vegas. Funny, it works just fine in Vegas.
I think that MSP is being discontinued so vegas would be a more logical choice when selecting the professional line of NLE's. Speaking professional and not consumer based products.
