Inserting transitions into a single captured DV Video file.

I want to insert transitions on the time line of a continuously captured video file (DV camcorder) 720x480.

It seems that Video Studio 11 will not allow you to put a transition into the middle of a continuously captured DV file. It wants you to create clips (Clip menu, Multi Trim Video) breaking up the video file, then it will allow you to create transitions. If this is true is there a better way to do this?

Reason being where you create your clips does not get saved, it also only allows you to split the video from the clips you created, the original total video file seems impossible to reach for further splitting. If you want to rearrange the content of your video or create more clips they are all lost! It would be nice if the Chapter points allowed the insertion of a transition directly on the time line.

The easiest way to insert transitions "mid-video" is to just use the scissor tool to split the video at the point you want the transition - then drag the transition down over the split - no need to create clips or save different clips or play around with multi-trim - just cut and insert.

You seem to be using a peculiar way of editing - we all have our own favourite way - which works for us personally - my personal favourite is to not create clips or use multi-trim at all - my favourite way of editing can be seeen here : -

That procedure is actually for version 9 but apart from the fact that buttons are in a different position in 10 and 11 the basics are the same
