amending UVS Transition Effects

Post by cwpaters »

i wish to change the F/X transition the "Fade to Black" transition. I want to change the color from "black" to "white" so the effect will probably be called "Fade to White"

Can this be done?

It is not a ready made transition but easy to do.
After the clip in the timeline place a white color from the color menu then add a crossfade between the two.
Or, insert the white color block in between two clips then the crossfade transition either side of the white color block.

yeah i know i can do that but when i do a highlights section on a video i use it every 4 secs over a 4min period!! just though i might be able to change a bit of code in one of the files to produce the white fade?

Instead of a black color block use a white one and do it the way shown here:

Hi Steve,
No we have kind of been down that path. The OP was looking to be able to actually change the "fade to black" transition itself into a "fade to white." Or even locate a "fade to white" transition.
He is doing a kind of "highlights" reel that will involve the effect being used a huge number of times so was looking at a faster method than the old insert white matte, crossfades at each end one.
He had the idea there may be a way to "hack" the "fade to black" transition" but this is beyond my meagre skills!

Have a look at http://www.ulead.com/download/sdk.htm

You can write your own transitions if you have some skills in c++ programming and also some skills in 2D and/or 3D graphic algorithms.

Some creativity and spare time is also usefull. Not to forget patience and endurance, as things almost never work at the first attempt and sometimes not even on the second or third attempt.

Steve, it's funny you mention Burger's. Stefan has a BW Transition.
Transition BW Flash: Scene A fade out to black, then scene B fades in from black to a certain degree of white and back to scene B.

Here's a possible workaround...

First create your Fade to white..
  1. Place 2 white color blocks in the main timeline.
  2. Place a cross-fade transition between the white color blocks.
  3. Adjust the duration of the color blocks to about 18 frames.
  4. Adjust the transition duration to about 15-18 frames.
  5. Render this to an AVI file. I used DV type 1. Name the file something like f2w (fade to white).
Now you can use your fade-to-white transition in your projects...
  1. Start a new project, insert your video or images into the timeline.
  2. Now for the transition drag the f2w.avi to the timeline, placing it between video/image clips, just like a transition.
  3. Place a cross-fade transition between the video/image clip and the f2w.avi clip.
  4. Adjust the duration of the f2w.avi clip by dragging the yellow handles.
You may need to experiment with the durations to get the transition effect to your liking.
