Hello folks,
I have tried searching the board but can't get my answers .
I have created this nice home SVCD and distributed it to friends and families. I used movie factory v3
To my knowledge about 8 of the 10 copies i distributed were not able to play with their DVD players. The two were able to play using windows media v9 on pc.
Has anyone experienced this ? if yes how do i solve this ?
thanks in advance

PLAYBACK PROBLEMS
DVD Players
Check here for the DVD Player make/model to see if it can play SVCD's
DVD Players
Also, were they all the same format (i.e. all NTSC or all PAL DVD Players)? If not, then that will throw a "Standards" compatibility issue into the mix...

Thanks for your reply. I created in the format PAL/SECAM. I live in Norway so I used PAL/SECAM.
That is SVCD PAL. I am thinking to upgrade to MF v4 but I am a bit afraid now and want to wait. Do you think I should render the video again or choose different format ? I could have created it in ordinary VCD. But VCD is just hopless that the resolution is poor.
Thanks again

first thing first...
the first thing I would do is try to find out from as many folks that cannot play your disc whether or not the issue is with their dvd player make/model, or if it could be the way the disc was created/burned. If you have them go to the DVD Players link I provided earlier, ask if they can confirm whether or not their dvd player should play SVCD's. This will at least eliminate the possibility that there was a problem when Authoring the SVCD.
In the end, some DVD Players just won't play SVCD's. I think you have a better chance with a VCD (although I don't have any hard evidence that VCD's are generally more compatible than SVCD's). But like you said, VCD will lower the quality a bit...
There is a VCD "Header Trick" that tricks a DVD Player into playing the SVCD by making it "look" like a VCD (this is non-standard, and probably not a good approach considering a wide audience).
But in case you wanted to know -- look here for the "VCD header trick" link
SVCD Info
With the cost of DVD Burners and DVD5 discs dropping to all-time lows, would making DVD's be a better approach? You get much higher quality, the benefits of menus/chapter buttons (instead of needing to hit button numbers on the remote), and probably better chances of compatibility (when authored properly).
