Hi,
I use the german version -> Iám not sure about the exact english Menus.
I have some problems with subtitles, the most dramatic is, that seemingly randomly they are written to the DVD or not. So I burn the samr project twice, once I get subtitles and the other time not.
On my old computer under Windows 2000 I always used Position fixed center down. So the subtitles were positioned so, that the lower center of the text apeared ad the lower center of the screen. Now on my new computer under Windows xp only the 1st line is visible, the rest is somewhere outside the screen. So I use coordinates.
The colors keep changing to all black.
Will there be still updates for DVD Workshop? Or is there a chance, that Moviefactory will support subtitles sometime?l

Updates for DVDWS - I don't know of any.
Subtitles in MovieFactory - It has been suggested we can only wait and see.
It seems a strange little problem there where you burn the same project twice and once get subtitles and the other time none. Just need you to confirm that you haven't made any alterations between 'burns' and which has the subtitles and which doesn't - i.e. first burn or second?
Just a suggestion to save you wasting discs.
Try burning to a Hard Drive Folder. Now you can check the DVD with a software DVD player such as WinDVD, PowerDVD, Nero Showtime etc.
You can then burn that hard drive folder to disc with your favourite DVD burning software.

I keep forgetting that. This is because unlike DVD Workshop as far as I can tell you cannot CREATE subtitles though you can IMPORT a subtitle file.GeorgeW wrote: MovieFactory 6 Plus already has one subtitle...
Regards,
George
Before George corrects that statement I need to further qualify that observation.
You can CREATE a 'subtitle' file if all that you want is a 'subtitle track' containing one or more of the following:
1. File name
2. Date
3. Time
4. EXIF information from Photographs.
You can IMPORT a subtitle file which you have either downloaded from an internet site or created in a third party application such as:
DivXLand Media Subtitler
http://www.divxland.org/subtitler.php
DivXLand Media Subtitler allows you to create and edit external subtitle files for AVI, MPG, WMV and all type of videos fast and easily. The subtitle creation process consists in using a plain text file containing the dialog lines in sequential order and applies these lines as subtitles into the opened media file during the video playback using just a click. The program includes cutting-edge features to edit and improve existing subtitle files as well. Now with support for more than 30 subtitle formats.
Not only can you create DVD Workshop 2 subtitles with this program but you can also download ready prepared subtitle files (Subtitles) open the file with DivXLand Media Subtitler and then save as a DVD Workshop subtitle file.
Subtitle formats currently supported:
Adobe Encore ¡´ Advanced SubStation Alpha ¡´ DKS ¡´ DVD Subtitle System ¡´ DVD Subtitle ¡´ FAB Subtitler ¡´ JACOSub 1.7 ¡´ Karaoke LRC ¡´ MAC DVD Studio Pro ¡´ OVR Script ¡´ Pinnacle Impression ¡´ PowerDivx ¡´ PowerPixel ¡´ QuickTime Text ¡´ RealTime ¡´ SAMI ¡´ SonicDVD ¡´ Sonic Scenarist ¡´ Spruce DVD Maestro ¡´ Spruce Subtitle ¡´ SubRip ¡´ SubStation Alpha ¡´ SubViewer 1.0 ¡´ SubViewer 2.0 ¡´ Tabbed values (generic format) ¡´ TMPlayer ¡´ TurboTitler ¡´ Ulead DVD Workshop ¡´ ViPlay ¡´ ZeroG
Subtitle Workshop
I found this one after finding the one above. This one appears even better than the previous one.

Subtitles
Google search showing links to an extensive collection of ready made subtitles. So if Aunty Flo is hard of hearing and you've volunteered to convert her old VHS tapes, spruce it up with subtitles that will make you appear like your the local Whiz Kid!
To help you make your own mind up about the capabilities of MovieFactory here are 2 screen shots relating to subtitles.

This brings up this screen.....

As far as I can tell the only way you could turn subtitles on/off would be with a DVD remote control. I do not think MovieFactory will create a subtitle on/off button like you have in commercially produced DVD's and which CAN be created in DVD Workshop.

Somehow I got no Message that there were replies. So my answer comes a bit late. I'am just creating a new DVD. Then I¡¬ll take note to find out which burn ist OK and wich is not.
Yes I need subtitles which I can write my self and which I can turn on and off.
I use them for background Information about my travel videos. The problem there is, that if I wont to see the information about the current scene and so I turn the subtitles on on my DVD-Player only the next subtitle apears, but not the current. Therefore I wrote a small program, which chops long lasting subtitles in 3s chunks. So I never have to wait more than 3s for the subtitle to apear. If someone needs this I can put it on my HP, as freeware. But than I'll have to make it more user-friendly, so I'll only do it if there is interest.

The problem that dws sometimes does not generate subtitles on dvd is an old one and I am sure I had read about it in an older thread of this forum. I also experienced it sometimes. Unfortunatly I cannot remember at moment what caused it. But I think it had to do with the sequence of operations you make (like adding subtitles and afterward adding / adjusting an other video). It can be avoided if you make some dummy changes in your subtitles or thomething like that before creating the dvd. Sorry - I do not remember better.

There are two separate reasons why uses have problems with subtitles in DVD Workshop 2.
The first is outlined in this thread:
FAQ: Unable to display subtitles in preview Window
The other - a completely different issue affecting subtitles is in this thread
Fix to problem in the common files folder after installation of VideoStudio 11+ or MovieFactory 6+

Hi,
Yesterday and today I tried 5 burns, 2 were successfull:
1) after writing subtiteles, creating menues,... I burned the DVD for the first time. Tecnicly every thing was fine, but I had to change something both on the subtitles and the menu
2) without restarting the program I burned the same DVD on the same DVD+RW again after the changes. This time I got Error 8004145e
3) the next morning, after restarting DVD Workshop I tried to burn the DVD again without any changes and got error 8004145d
4) on an other DVD+RW I tried it again (without restart). The burn was successfull, but no subtitles
5) As sugested by Helge I did a dummy change (just opening a subtitle text) and burned the DVD again. this time every thing was fine, so I copied the +RW on +R by Nero. Before my next DVD I¡¬ll check all the mentioned updates and patches. Besides DVD-Workshop 2 I have Moviefactory 4. There lately it tells me, that I have no DVD-burner. I like to use Moviefactory for fast trial-DVDs. But for the final version I prefere the Workshop.
So which patches should I install in what order. Is there any reasen why some of the patches are on fileWind and not on a Ulead-Site? In times of trayans and other malware this looks suspicious.

Hi Steve,
I did a search for "subtitle" and found the thread I meant. It was:
http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=9767
The solution I had found that time was to delete the temporary files before rebuild. Seems to me that if dws does not regenerate some files it is skipping also some other steps and is not able to multiplex correctly at the end.
But here DimitriJunker might had more than just this one problem.
