Videostudio 11 Sound Problem
This drives me insane. I start a new project, I am new to this, completely new, super newbie. I select a clip and drag it to the strip on the bottom. I press play and hear sound and video. Then I switch from clip to project and then I see the same video but the sound VANISHES!!!
Please tell me what I am doing wrong I can't find any tutorials or how to's anywhere that explain the basics of how to start using this product. I am going insane here.

It's there...I just asked a similar question. When you play the project you still hear the sound right? but can't see the sound wave in the Sound bar of the timeline. My undertanding of it is you right click the "clip" and select "split Audio from..."
~Cut and Paste~
The Edit Step Options Panel allows you to edit the video, image and color clips that you added to the Video Track. Video filters that you applied to your clips can be fine tuned in the Attribute tab.
Video tab
Duration: Displays the duration of the selected clip in hours:minutes:seconds:frames. You can trim the selected clip by changing the clip duration.
Clip volume: Allows you to adjust the volume of the audio segment of your video.
Mute: Silences the audio segment of your video without deleting it.
Fade-in/out: Gradually increases/decreases the volume of the clip for a smooth transition. Select File: Preferences - Edit to set the fade-in/out duration.
Rotate: Rotates the video clip.
Color Correction Allows you to adjust the hue, saturation, brightness, contrast, and gamma of the video clip. You can also adjust the White balance of the video or image clip or make auto tone adjustments.
Playback Speed: Launches the Playback Speed dialog box where you can adjust the pace of your clip.
Reverse video: Plays the video backward.
Save as Still Image Saves the current frame as a new image file and places it in the Image Library. All enhancements made to the file are discarded before saving.
Split Audio Allows you to separate the audio from a video file and place it on the Voice Track.
Split by Scene Splits a captured DV AVI file based on the shooting date and time, or the changes in video content (i.e., motion change, camera shifting, brightness change, etc.).
Multi-trim Video Allows you to choose desired segments from a video file and extract them.
Once you have split the audio you can delete it.
Now simply place your replacement sound on one of the two audio tracks.

Re: Videostudio 11 Sound Problem
I am having exactly the same problem. I've been using VS8 for several years. I upgraded to VS11+ this weekend. I captured an avi file. When I "share" the file - even if I don't change the format, there is no sound. I checked the audio for the resulting track and it indeed flatlined at 0.sjj1805 wrote:Forum Tutorialsjkrolen5500 wrote:.......

I can hear the sound fine when I'm playing the clip, but if I play the "project" view there is no sound.
The volume control (audio view -> attribute) is greyed out at 0 in project mode, but 100 in clip mode. I expect that this is my problem, but I haven't been able to figure out how to ungrey it. (I disabled 5.1 mode)
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Jon

Re: Videostudio 11 Sound Problem
I found a workaround but it seems like a bug in VS11+.
For each clip in the time series, if I click both the fade-in & fade-out controls, I get sound in the project view. If I don't no sound.

I seem to recall that someone else found another work-around which involved changing the default audio level in Edit mode to 99 (or 101) instead of 100. They put it into project mode, and the audio played. I stress, though, that I have not tried this personally as I have never had the problem in the first place...
