How to use smart proxy

Post by Sui »

I recently bought Version 11 in order to edit HDTV files.
As HDTV files are quite heavy. editing is nearly impossible. That the reason (to my understanding) smart proxy function is available. So I converted the high resolution files into the low resolution avi counterparts.
But when I insert a video file in the time line (marked withe a blue & white icon) the proxy file is not used in my project.

Can anyone help me?

Thank you

I don't know how fast your computer is but try turning the use proxy off and see how the program performs working with the native file.

Go to File: Preferences - Smart Proxy, then select the Enable Smart Proxy option. In the Smart Proxy tab of the Preferences dialog box, you can set the condition when proxy files need to be generated and choose a proxy file format

I aleady set the preferences for the proxy files and made sure they were created (320x270 avi). But when I drag the videofiles in the time line, the proxy files are not used instead of their HDV counterparts.

Proxy files are lower resolution working copies of video files. They are reduced in resolution or compression bit rate for only one reason --to speed up editing of HDV and other large video source files. Proxy files are source-dependent rather than project-dependent. In other words, proxy files can be shared among different projects.

When you edit and preview your project in Instant Play mode, proxy files will be used as substitutes for their large video source counterparts. Whereas when you preview your project in high-quality playback mode or when you render a video file, the original video source files will be used.

To enable the creation of proxy files, go to File: Preferences - Smart Proxy, then select the Enable Smart Proxy option. In the Smart Proxy tab of the Preferences dialog box, you can set the condition when proxy files need to be generated and choose a proxy file format

Are you waiting for the proxy file to be created :?:

Add a file (that will generate a proxy file) to your timeline, then hit the little Enable/Disable Proxy icon above the timeline -- go to Smart Proxy Manager to see if it's generating a proxy file.

Also, are they enabled (my icon shows orange highlights when enabled).
