WinDVD8 wiping out ability to use WinDVR3

I recently installed WinDVD8 on my Windows Vista system, and ran into a familiar problem. It seems any other version of Intervideo products wipe out my ability to use the version of WinDVR3 that came with my Adaptec VideoOh! USB2 DVD Media Center. And since that seems to be the only software that will work with the USB tuner, I'm SOL when it comes to watching/recording tv on my pc.

In the past, I'd been able to workaround the problem by re-installing WinDVR after WinDVD, but that hasn't worked this time. I had been running WinDVR3 with a few minor glitches, but now the program won't run at all. Even worse, by following Intervideo KB directions for a clean reinstallation of WinDVR3 (purge/deleting temp files), I lost my system restore points and can't get back to my system before WinDVD8 was installed.

Why can't WinDVD leave WinDVR alone? Can anyone help me to get WinDVR working again?
