Creating video output (file protection error)

Post by Pushingtin »

I just got Video Studio 11 (first time I am using this product) and I have created my project and ready to get it to mpeg format.

I click on the Share button, then create video. It gives me the different options (HD, MPEG etc) and no matter what I choose, when I click save, it says something like "This file may be write protected". Also has a number 15033:0:2

Strangely when I try to save to external device, that seems to work.

Any ideas? (and there is no copyright protected stuff I am using, its footage from my mini DV camera)

If you are using VS11+ on a computer with XP, then go to the Microsoft site and download the latest update patch for DirectX 9.0c. It was released in early June 2007. This seems to fix a number of problems users have.

If you have Vista, this won't work (as you have DirectX 10). But I am not sure what will, sorry.

Figured it out....

You cant create the video in the same folder as the project file. Even if you use a different name to save the output file.

Used a different folder and worked no prob! :D

I think that will surprise a lot of people since most of us always produce our final video in the same working folder as the project file is stored in. In fact, that is the purpose of a working folder...! Still, I am glad it worked... And VS11 is still surprising us all!

I found the same problem. It was caused, I think, because I had my "video working" folder on the root, and VISTA protects it. If you use "run as administrator" when you start VS11+ it will work. I didn't like that so I just moved my "video working" folder inside of the "my documents" folder and now it works without specifying "run as administrator".

This isn't just a Vista problem: I have it with XP. Fortunately, it only took me a few tries before I figured out which folder on my PC I am allowed to save an avi file to. It turns out to be C:/Program Files..., which isn't where I want it, but whatever, I can move it later. Just one more step, right?

This is my first day trying to learn this program. I'm just goofing around to find out how it works with a sample avi from my collection, and I got an error message that took me about half an hour of hunting around to find this thread. I'm not off to a good start! :-/

As luck would have it I just had the same error message whilst I was working with an image in PhotoImpact. I tried to overwrite an existing file with a new copy and had the file protection error message.

I realised what the problem was - the file concerned was open in another window of Photoimpact. The same message would occur if I had the image open in another application such as Windows Fax and Picture Viewer.

This might be the reason you had the error message in VideoStudio
i.e. it was already in use elsewhere.
