I hope this posting doesn't appear twice. I suppose this forum might be moderated, but I found no statement to that effect, not even for dummies in the FAQ list, like "Why doesn't my posting appear?" My first attempt at posting on this subject disappeared ... so here I go again.
I want to learn to make DVD menus from scratch. I use VideoStudio 11, but I get the feeling that this isn't possible with this product, nor with the DVD Movie Factory, which is essentially the same as VS. What product should I use?
In the meantime: I bought a German version of VideoStudio 11 and installed it on my PC, it had tons of Menu templates. I got disgusted with the German terminology and purchased the English version online and downloaded it. Before installing it, I removed my German version, and the templates. Then the downloaded version turned up with only a few templates.
How can I get the large selection of menu templates from my Box/CD German VS11 version into my English version? Can I download templates like is done in PhotoImpact?
It's more important for me to be able to learn to make the menus from scratch, however. Please let me know what product I need and where I can find an associated tutorial. I need questions answered like "how come I can add something like a text object to a menu, then I can only hide it and not remove it if I don't want it anymore?" I'm that much of a newbie.
Thanks for your time,
Regards,
Ralph Nolte

You mean this earlier thread (which I found by simply looking a little way down the list of postings till I found your name!!!): http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... 495#121495
And yes, this forum is moderated, though I am not a moderator. Hopefully one of them will see this new thread and move it to the other one.
As for your menu problems, I am not quite sure what you mean by making menus from scratch. Of the Ulead products, I thought only DVD Workshop could create a menu from absolutely nothing. Movie Factory is better at menus than Video Studio, but that is because it is primarily an authoring program, with some editing capabilities, while VS is primarily an editing program, with some authoring capabilities. They are in effect complementary.
That being said, if you downloaded VS11+ full upgrade, then all the extra menu templates are in the second (and large -- 300 MB plus) 'Extra Content' download file you should have received a link to.
As for tutorials, did you look in the list of subjects of the various Forums on this Board -- there is one specifically on tutorials. I think this may also have already been answered in the other thread.

That wasn't the thread I meant, I had written exactly this posting. Thanks for the tip about the other downloads, I got them. And no, I meant something else by a "moderated forum."Ken Berry wrote:You mean this earlier thread (which I found by simply looking a little way down the list of postings till I found your name!!!): http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... 495#121495

As for making menus from scratch: I want to put up a background image, add text links to my menu items, and other component objects like active thumbnails etc. which a menu consists of, but without using a template. A software would be required which allows me to add, modify and remove menu elements. And I'd like to find a place where I can get some of my dumb questions on the subject of editing menus answered.
All the best,
Ralph
