Hi Guys
I¡¦ve searched around for a bit but cannot find the answer to this one.
I¡¦d like to insert a movie file into the time line in VS10. The movie was exported from flash at 720x 576, 16:9 (the same size as the original flash project file) and the same size as the DV file being edited. When it is dragged onto the time line, the preview shows not only the black bars along the top and the bottom as I would expect but also black bars to the left and the right, as shown with the link below:

The only way I can get the movie to stretch across the entire screen is to export it with a width size of 1200 which is much larger than the original width!
Therefore, is there an optimum size for filing the whole window or is it just a case of trial and error?
Thanks
Steve

Hi Steve
If you are viewing a widescreen video (720 X 576 : 16:9 ) then the frame will be stretched to fit the widescreen frame.
But your image looks like a 4:3 video viewed in a widescreen frame.
You could use the ¡¥Distort¡¦ function to fill the screen. (select the clip and click the Attribute tab
If you wish to fill the frame with a still image use 16:9 ratio, eg 1024px ¡V 576px
Have a look at my guide to Widescreen 16:9 from the link below.
This shows what 16:9 and 4:3 should look like using VS.

OK thanks. That explains why the 1200 width image worked to fill the screen. I'll make sure I keep the aspect ratio for all images 16:9 in the future.
Thanks for the link as well.
I never knew/thought about changing the background colour. One day I'll read the literature that comes with software!
