How many files can fit on one DVD - How do you tell?

Post by bryanbloom »

I have an Everio camcorder. I pull the files off the camcorder onto our computer. I want to then add them to Ulead Video 11 and make a DVD.

But I can not tell how many I can add of these files. Is there an easy way to add home video files inthis program until you have enough to fill a DVD?

Any help is appreciated.

The .mod files from your camera are in fact just mpeg-2 files with a different extension. I understand simply changing .mod to .mpg makes them usable by Video Studio.

Given that they are mpeg-2 and are otherwise DVD compatible (I believe), then you should be able to fit around 4.2 GB of them onto one single layer DVD unchanged, and leaving space for a menu.

Actually, Ulead reads the .mod files right in the way they are. I was just wondering if there was a quick way to bring them in, like 30 of them and then tell if they will all fit on the DVD I want to burn.

Thanks.

A single layer DVD disc will typically hold 4.37 GB of video.

As you add files to the Ulead DVD authoring interface, you should see a file size indicator that tells you how much space is being occupied by the files that you add.

Do you see that?

It's located near the bottom... lower left.

There's also a total size tally given on the final DVD burn menu page.

I pulled in a bunch of files and I didn't see the file size indicator on the left.... where exactly is it?

Thanks.

He meant it is in the burning module (Share > Create Disc). Otherwise, you have to right click on the files to see how large they are, then drag in an amount into the Editing timeline which is less that 4.3 GB or which will be less than 4.3 (or as I suggest 4.2 GB to allow for a menu etc) after editing.
