I am sure that CompUSA have facilities to reseal items and then place them back onto their shelves.

let us imagine you went to the car showrooms and bought a brand new Ford motor car. A few days later you notice a few 'faults' - do you take it to Ford - the manufacturer, or do you take it to the showroom you bought it from?
1. Its not a car. You go to the mfr to get tech support on software. I thought I had a technical problem (see 3 below)

2. Car dealers don't sell previously driven cars as new. Neither should computer stores. Its not legal for them to reseal open merchandise and resell as new.

3. No where in the manual, box, or the intervideo website does it say the number is on a separate card. There is a 15 digit code on the back of the cd envelop, but it doesn't work. I finally got home from work last nite earlier enough to call. The guy I spoke to said that number should work, and he promised to email me a working code today. Apparently he wasn't a support guy, because he wouldn't try to help me get the program installed the on the vista machine I want to put it on. I can only
get the installer to run on an xp machine.

UNFORTUNATELY, he didn't email the code today, and I got home too late to call tonite. Its completely frustrating that they won't help me by email. Sigh.....

No its not a car - you are missing the point - I was making an analogy.
If something else you bought broke you would take it back to the shop not the manufacturer.

No you do not have a technical problem - you have a missing item - a missing Product Authenticity card in the box.

Yes perhaps it is illegal to reseal opened merchandise. Sorry to say that other things are illegal too like parking a car on a double yellow line, robbery, shoplifting, rape, murder etc. but that hasn't stopped these things from happening.

Your first point of call is the place you bought it from.

You are missing the point. The registration code should NOT be on a small card. And Corel, not the store, is responsible for putting the card in the box, and they owe me the registration code. Instead I'm getting the runaround. It is very frustrating. Assuming Compusa did something illegal rather than Corel made a mistake is not good thinking, I believe.

Corel is the one that screwed up. The code, if there really is a need for one, should be on the cd case or on the cd itself. The installation procedures should also explain where the code is.

And I think I do have a technical problem, I still suspect that the 15 digit code on the back of the cd envelope is really the code that should work. And if its not, the rep I spoke to should have not said it was.

And I still can't get the windvd installer to work on the two vista machines I've tried it on.

I have a retail version of Videostudio 11 Plus from Newegg and there was no serial number for WinDVD. There was a serial number for VS11 but not one for WinDVD. Help appreciated.

This is a popular error!
Do not try and install WinDVD from the WinDVD sub-directory but instead run Autorun.exe from the root of the disc or downloaded setup files.
