Serial number does not work

Post by Armadillo »

Bought WinDVD 8 Gold at CompUSA. When I try to install it, it will not accept the serial number. I tried the number on the CD sleave, on the CD, on the box. No number works. All entered as shown.
Windows Vista (tried XP too).

Anyone else have this issue?

I can exchange it tomorrow for another one, but I would like to get it working now. Plus, the fact that the serial number dosnt work is a very poor product.

Where Do I Find My Serial Number/Purchase Key?
If you have purchased a box version of your software, your serial number is located inside your software box on a Product Authenticity Card. It is a small postcard, about 5x5 inches in size.

If you have purchased a download version, your serial number/key has been sent to you via your order confirmation email. It is located next to the download link.

I Have Lost My Serial Number. How Do I Get It Back?
Corel will replace lost Serial Numbers with proof of original ownership.

To receive a replacement serial number for your product, please call Corel's Customer Support Services. A full listing of contact numbers can be found at:

There is no a Product Authenticity Card in the box.
There is a number on the CD sleave, on the CD, and on the box.
The box was sealed.

Windows media player does a better job than windvd and you don't have to waste your life away talking to someone on the phone that barely speaks English just to get lousy programming to activate ! Buy PowerDVD and just turn Corel in to your credit card company for lousy product and service. Let them chase them around !

Firstly - please confirm you have a standalone version of WinDVD and not one that was included with other software such as VideoStudio / MovieFactory. If you have one of those versions then the installation procedure is different and I will explain later if necessary.

I suspect that the earlier attempt to install WinDVD might be the problem.
Please follow the procedure outlined here:

Please reinstall WinDVD 8. This is to make sure that there are no corrupt program files on your computer. Simple reinstallation or repair from the control panel might not work. Try this procedure instead:
  1. Launch Windows Explorer and go to "Tools > Folder Options > View" to check "show hidden files and folders".
  2. Purge/delete all the files in these folders: "C:\Windows\Temp" "C:\Documents and Settings\[User Name]\Local Settings\Temp" (for WinXP) *It is safe to delete all contents of these folders. However, leave any files you can't delete for now.
  3. Uninstall InterVideo WinDVD 8 from "Add/Remove Programs" of "Control Panel".
  4. Delete the content of this directory: "C:\Program file\InterVideo\Common\Bin"
  5. Restart your computer and reinstall WinDVD 8 from the installer.
Notes:
  • Before installing, please temporarily close other running programs or applications including antivirus, Norton utilities, screensaver, other memory resident programs including Internet connection, etc. to avoid unnecessary conflict and restrictions within your system.
  • If the above suggestions still don't work, we suggest you update your video card drivers and DirectX to the latest version. Download DirectX from http://www.microsoft.com/DirectX

I also purchased WinDVD gold about a month ago, at Compusa. NO Product Authenticity card in the box. Can't get the software to install. Intervideo hasn't answered my emails. The hours to call for support are pretty much worthless for someone who works during the day. Anyone have any suggestions how to get a working copy of the software from Intervideo that I've paid for?

Shouldn't you be bugging CompUSA about this?

You don't think Corel owes me a working product?????

I LIVE 20 miles from the store. I'm don't want to send another $5 in gas an hour or two of my time to get something I already paid for. Corel boxed this up to be placed in the store. Clearly, Its their responsibility to package a working product to be sold in stores!

There is code on the back of the cd envelope. Not labeled what it is, and it didn't work. It was month before I even saw a message saying there should be a card in the box. Putting the code on a tiny separate card in the box is extremely poor planning on Corel's part, apparently its too easy for some boxes to get shipped out without cards.

Besides, I still can't get the installation to even run on the PC I want to install it on running VIsta. I've tried on two vista PC's. I can get it run on a win xp pc to get to the point where I should input the registration code.

Sorry but I disagree. How do you know that another customer didn't like the boxed version he bought from CompUSA and returned it. Perhaps the original purchaser had an incompatible system or simply picked the wrong box up.

I am sure that CompUSA have facilities to reseal items and then place them back onto their shelves.

let us imagine you went to the car showrooms and bought a brand new Ford motor car. A few days later you notice a few 'faults' - do you take it to Ford - the manufacturer, or do you take it to the showroom you bought it from?
