Nature of the problem: I have VS 10+. When I attempt to create a DVD using the Share\Create Disc feature, the program locks up every time at the same spot: If I check "create menu," it will lock up when I click Next from the "Choose Template" screen. If I don't create a menu, it will lock up when I click Next from the "Preview" screen.
Properties of your source files (format, file size, where did you get it?) I initially noticed this problem with a .mpeg file, and I have since tried using .wmv, .mov, and .avi files, and encountered the same problem.
What devices are involved and their mode of connection? Just my PC and DVD burner, which is an LG GWA 4164B, with updated firmware.
Project Settings: default DVD settings
Output format (file, DVD, VCD, SVCD) DVD
NTSC
Error Codes (if any) No error codes - the program locks up and will not respond to any input.
Other: I have installed the latest service pack and CD/DVD burning update.
Does anyone have information on this problem, or suggestions?
Thanks.

Are you going to Share > Create Disc from the timeline when you have a project in the timeline?
If so, read the Suggested Workflow.

What are your clip properties?
What are your project properties?
Have you added audio files? What type?
At what point does it lock up "every time at the same spot"?

What are your clip properties?
As mentioned in the initial post, I have tried 4 different files - .avi, .mov, .wmv, and .mpeg. The initial clip (where I discovered the problem), was an .mpeg, which I captured from a Sony MiniDV camcorder, using the default DVD settings. Properties are:
MPEG-2 Video, Lower Field First
83,218 Frames
24 bits, 720x480, 4:3
29.970 Frames/sec
Variable bit rate (max 8000 kbps)
LPCM audio
133,282,082 samples
48,000 Hz, 16 bit, stereo
What are your project properties?
Program defaults - I have not made any custom settings.
Have you added audio files? What type?
No audio files have been added.
At what point does it lock up "every time at the same spot"?
Refer to the initial post; it describes the stage at which the "create disc" process locks up.

You should 'capture' (actually it is transfer) the video from your camcorder by way of an IEEE1394 firewaire cable and you should do so in DV(avi) format NOT in MPEG format.akvideo wrote:....The initial clip (where I discovered the problem), was an .mpeg, I captured from a Sony MiniDV camcorder, using the default DVD settings......

Do you have Nero's InCD module installed on your computer, or similar packet writing software, for instance the Roxio suite? It seems that certain of these programs in effect take over your DVD burner and refuse to let other programs, like Video Studio, access it. If you have InCD (check in Add/Remove programs -- it shows up as a separate program from the main Nero suite), then uninstall it. If you have the Roxio suite, then find the packet writing program and disable it in its Preferences while you are using Video Studio.
(Packet writing software is where you drag and drop -- or use the Send command -- files on to the icon of your burner, and they accumulate there until there is enough to fit on the disc...)
