Can't change to capture mode - NEW PROBLEM

Post by Lukejack »

Hello,
I'm owner of a Hauppauge PVR USB2 video capture card including Ulead Movie Factory 2 SE.
But when I trie to start capturing a video, a error-warning occurs.
It says that MovieFactory can't change to the capture mode and that I have to check my capture driver.
I testet different driver-versions from Hauppauge and I also read the topics about this problem in this forum.
So I installed the newest DirectX 9.0c Runtimes from the Microsoft Website, but the error still occurs.
There is no difference to before installing the newest version.
I also tried other prgrams like Ulead Media Studio Pro (same error), Nero Vision (exits itself when trying to capture), Windows Movie Maker (says, that the card is already in use, when I try to capture).

Please, excuse my English :-)

Please view:
MF4: Create DVD from Hauppauge TV Card

The procedure in MF2 will be the same though some of the screens may look slightly different. I shall move this post from VideoStudio to MovieFactory.

Thanks for moving...
I read your tutorial and noticed that I don't have a capture plugin of Hauppauge. There are only two different plugins from Ulead, one of them called directshow..., but both plugins don't work.
Using the Ulead directshow plugin the aforesaid error occurs, using the other Ulead plugin I even can't choose the Hauppauge USB2 as device.
So I although have no acces to the capture properties that are displayed in your tutorial.
By the way I will check, if I can get a hauppauge capture plugin in, so I can test DMF again.
On the other way, perhaps a newer version of DMF is needed (but DMF 2 SE was included in the package of Hauppauge).
I will also try WinTV2000, but I don't know if I can capture videos from other devices (Videorecorder) through the composite video input of my hauppauge pvr usb2.
It seems like WinTV2000 only can capture video played by using the tv-programs.

I will check out and post my results.

In any case many thanks for your help.

Hello,
yesterday I tested your recommended tips and here are my results:
I reinstalled the whole software and driver-package of my PVR USB2 using the hcwclear-utility.
After that I tried to get image and sound starting WinTV2000.
I added one channel for the composite Input of the PVR USB2
(that is the only channel I have, because there is no analog cable or antenna-tv in my region, so neither a cable nor an antenna is connected).
After adding a channel I got picture and sound. So far so good.
The first problem was, that the sound is disturbed by a loud noise like you can hear it, if there is no tv reception.
The original input-sound is very low and if you try to make it louder, the noise gets louder too.
When I try to capture (Standard-DVD-Quality), the captured Video-quality is very low, means, that the deinterlacing seems to be enforced by a weave-method (field insertion), because of artifacts known as "mouse teeth" or "tearing".
That's my result for WinTV2000.
Ulead Movie Factory produces the same errors as before.
I still have no Hauppauge capture plugin, only a few Ulead capture plugins (but these plugins don't work with the PVR USB2).
I searched the whole web, but I didn't find any Hauppauge Capture Plugins.
I discovered, that there are Hauppauge Plugins for DMF 4, but not so for DMF 2. But that's unlogical, because DMF 2 was added to the PVR USB2 Hardware.

So, if someone has some tips for me for further tests, I would be very amused.
Many thanks to everyone, who can help me.

Hello again,
yesterday I tried the trial Version of DMF 6.
With this Version I even can see pictures, but the bad noise (like white noise, but I can see pictures) is still there.
It starts, when starting the software, it stops, when exiting the software, irrespective of plugging an external source at the cinch input (composite video, audio L + R).
Only if there is no channel stored in the channel list, there is no noise.
When I add a channel (in my case the composite input) the noise starts.

After all I'm very uninspired because of this problem.

Has nobody an idee for me?

I wondered, if noone could help me...
So I decided to put the Hauppauge PVR USB2 back in its package thinking about using an old Pinnacle PCTV Sat receiver-card for capturing.
Altough this card doesn't have a hardware-mpeg2-encoder, only a composite video-in and no audio-inputs (I tried the microphone-in of my onboard soundcard), I was convinced of starting a test.
Because I already had the trial version of DMF 6 installed, I used this program for capturing with software encoding.
Settings were DVD-HQ with stereo audio-signal.
I wondered, if my AthlonXP 2400 was strong enough to do this realtime-software encoding, but he was.
I captured a whole video in best picture and sound quality.
There were no sync-problems between video and audio and no frames were dropped. After that I modified the captured video using DMF 6 and burned it on DVD. That's all. The DVD plays very well on my DVD-Player.
So I ask myself, why I did so much tries with the PVR USB 2 having so much trouble instead of taking my old pinnacle-card without any hardware-encoding.
After all I have to say that DMF 6 is perfectly the software I searched for.
No problems, easy handling and very good results.
I think I will try the trial for the next few weeks to decide which version I will need for further projects.
In any case thanks to >> sjj1805 << and have a nice day!
