Audio while capturing?

Post by ConnieR. »

I have a question about using vieo capture in MSP 7. When I am capturing, there is no sound, but it comes out all right after the file is captured. Is this normal, or do I have the settings wrong. I tried both AVI and MPG, and I am capturing from VHS. Also, is there a way to play a video directly from VHS with video capture, without capturing? Sometimes I only need a small part, so I like to watch it and then capture only the part I need. I would like for there to be sound while I am just playing it, if possible. Thanks.

Sometimes my computer auto mutes the audio for some reason when capturing. Check your notification bar to see if the volume control is still active.

I cannot remember which version, but before a certain one, all capture was silent. Are you sure you have updated to v. 7.3? This normally will give sound. Better still, upgrade to 8.1!

I don't know about 7.0, but in 8.0 the sound is not there while capturing. And you have the option to preview the tape with sound so you can hit record when you're ready to start recording. You can also foward and rewind the tape inside the program. Of course, this is with a miniDV camera hooked up via Firewire. I don't know what your setup is with your VHS connection. It might not work that way with it. Also, it's always better to get a little too much on each end so that you have room for transistions, if you want to use them. Even on news shows they sometimes start the video with the sound off, then start the sound when they are ready for you to hear what they want you to.
