Best Quality MPEG-2

Post by mitchw »

Hello,

I use VideoStudio 10, capturing all of my DV tapes to AVI files. Then I burn to DVD. I want to keep copies of the vdio on my hard drive, but my hard drive(s) are filling up with large AVI files. I want to reduce space while preserving image quality.

Here is what I think I need to do.

Batch convert, select NTSC-DVD, set video quality to 100, enable two-pass encode, set the video rate to 8000 and set the audio to LPCM.

Is that correct or is trhere a better way?

Finally, when I mouse over a captured video clip in Video Studio it gives me the recording time; however, when I convert this that information is lost. Is there someway to preserve it or automatically change the name or add metadata?

thanks in advance for any advise.

That will give you the highest quality MPEG-2 video file ( 4 gig per hour)

Now if your dvd was encoded at that quality or you are quite happy with the dvd quality, you can simply import the dvd content back into VS. A whole lot quicker than re-encoding the original AVIs
