AVControlSDK Installation Problems - MovieFactory 6

Post by Jim Howe »

I put the "DVD MovieFactory 6" disc into the D: and installation began. I entered names the company name and user name fields, and the wizard began to install the various things.

HOWEVER, when the wizard began to install AVControl SDK, a message appeared, titled "Setup", which said "A fatal error has occurred during installation". I clicked "OK", and the window closed. I couldn't complete the installation.

Before installation, i ensured all virus protection systems had been shut down.

Why does this happen, and can the problem be solved? Thanks to anyone who can help.

Hi,

How about giving this a try?

1)removed the DMF6 folder that was created in the first install attempt
2)copied CD contents to your hdisk
3)edit info.ini and change AVControlSDK=1 to 0
4)ran setup from the copy on disk
5)ran utilities\AVControlSDK\AVControl.exe from the copy on disk

Hope this would help. :)

I have tried this several times. I've emailed Corel support, and get the run around. The phrase "a fatal error has occurred" does not even exist in their knowledge database. I wish someone could help me.

The one reply I did receive from Corel was a dead link to their FTP site for a patch download.

Hi Jim,
There's this approach too, but it only applies if your error message included the following:

Internal Failure
Error Number 0x80040707

If you didn't see this message, what follows probably doesn't apply and you can skip the rest of this message if you want.

For that particular error I found one fix - for MY SYSTEM at least - on the Installshield support site.

There were two parts to this fix.

NOTE 1: The first was found on the Installshield site. Note that I am running WinXP SP2 and that I followed the instructions for that operating system. Others are covered too:

http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108167

NOTE 2: In my case I found NO problems with the pathname definitions in the registry. HOWEVER - even though the path to my "Startup" folder was correct in the registry, THE FOLDER ITSELF WAS NOT IN THE ALL USERS PROGRAM GROUP.

I re-created the "Startup" folder in the All Users program group here:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs

i.e. the complete path to the new folder was:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

This fixes the problem because InterVideo wants to place a startup item in that folder. You might want to check that folder when you're done in case you want to nix the extra startup program. That's what I did.

The obvious disclaimer is that this worked for the aforementioned error message on my system. If you have similar problems on yours, it may work for you.

Good Luck,
Big Al Mintaka

The link below refers to WinDVD 5.0 update. Is WINDVD included on the MovieFactory installation disk? I have WinDVD 3.0 installed on my PC. WinDVD is not listed as a system requirement - this makes no sense.

Please view:

As you know users encounter a bug regarding installation error of UVS11 and DMF6. During installation they suddenly got the error message "A fatal error has occurred during installation". after the message "AVControl SDK will be installed". Every known solution in that case won't change a thing.

The patch for this bug was ready yesterday, please send the attached file or this link to user.

ftp://ftp.ulead.com/pub/Updates/VideoSt ... pgrade.exe

The steps are listed as following,

1. Remove manually the UVS/DMF files/folder under Program Files or where they installed by themselves.
2. Update the patch WinDVD5.0B011.Recover.FixedGenericLicense.iUpgrade.exe
3. Install UVS/DMF again.

When I intall the file WinDVD5.0B011.Recover.FixedGenericLicense.iUpgrade.exe, I get the following message:

Check-02:This upgrade patch can't apply to your version of WinDVD. Setup will now abort....[/img]
