I'm working with about an hour of DV Type 1 footage about 13GB in size. With no edits and only a few chapter marks, it seems to take a long time to create the file (about 80 minutes). Is this reasonable?
System:
Operating System: XP Pro v.2002 SP 2
Graphic Card: NVidia GeForce 6600
Sound Card: Realtek HD
Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz Model 4, Stepping 1 (Multi-threading)
Memory: 1.5GB
Hard Disk Drive: 250GB SATA
Task Mgr:
vstudio using about 200MB of memory
Memory Available: 845MB
Thanks.

You don't say what you are actually doing with your DV footage i.e. what you are converting it to. So I have to assume that you are converting to DVD-compatible mpeg-2.
If you look at my System button below, you will see that my computer is not wildly different to your own. On that computer, it takes on average about 1.1x to 1.2x real time to convert DV to mpeg-2. In other words, for an hour of video, it will take 1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 20 minutes to convert. So your figure looks very similar to my experience.
Who said video editing was supposed to be quick???!!!
