Can anyone share their experiences of working w/ language subtitles. Is it possible to create language subtitles with VS8?

You need Ulead DVD WorkShop or DVD WorkShop Express.

FYI - As long as you have a Video Studio loaded on your machine, you can use the Special Upgrade version of DVD Workshop Express ($150).

DVD Workshop is is good program. I haven't made subtitles, but I have made a DVD with a 2nd soundtrack. It can make some nice menus too.

Hi,

A lot depends upon how many subtitles one wants. I think the Express DVD Workshop 2 has a smaller number of tracks -2, whereas DVD WS2 has 32.

Am I missing something?

What's the difference between a subtitle (presumably to translate what somebody is saying) and a Video Studio title, placed low on the screen?

I just created a DVD of a community performance of "The Sound of Music" very poorly videotaped back in 1989. Sometimes the lyrics of songs were not clear. What's to have prevented me from typing out what people were singing, and positioning it low down, dragging each line to cover the necessary frames?

Or is it something about translation itself that people are talking about?

I am will require to prepare languge subtitles for the entire lenght of my short film production. I hope that it is not necessary to procure any additional software for this feature.

No, you won't need any additional software. As kebrinton said, the Title feature will let you accomplish what you are trying to do by positioning the title at the bottom of the screen and adjusting the duration to fit the desired scene.

The only drawback is that these titles cannot be turned off, since they become part of the video.

With DVD Workshop you can create real subtitles that can be turned on and off as desired at the time the DVD is played.
