Hi, I recently upgraded to Vista and VS11, previously I was working with XP and VS10 with no problems, now when I try to capture a VS11 window apears stating this:
"Unable to switch to capture mode, check if your video capture is working properly"
The hardware:
Macbook Pro dual core duo 2G ram.
Vista runing on Boot camp
Sony Hdr-hc1 HDV camcorder
Firewire 800
Some facts:
-First I upgraded from VS10, when it did not work I uninstalled and did a clean install, also removed entrees on the register.
-The installed driver for the sony camcorder is working fine on windows movie maker
-The error apears even when no camera is connected, as soon as I click the capture tab, so I can't capture at all, not even with the integrates iSight camera.
- On the capture plug-in pull down only the "IVI Capture Component" is listed, no other choices apear.
- The Sony HDV device does apear on the sources list of the capture screen but the buttons to start capture are grayed out.
Im I the only one with this problem, I could not find anithing similar thrads.
Thanks for any help.

VS 11 Unable to switch to capture mode

I can only suggest a workaround. VS10+ is Vista compliant with the latest patches. Install VS10+ and then VS11+.
Capture using HDVSplit to the harddisk which will be transport stream format.
Load the video into VS10+, answer YES to convert to Program Stream, convert the file to program stream.
Then use this PS file in VS11+. Reason I'm recommending converting to PS using VS10+ is because I cannot get VS11+ to read the TS (transport stream hd-mpeg2 file) correctly, VS11+ isn't picking up the fielding parameters everytime. I also haven't been able to reliably write back to tape with VS11+ which is also the transport stream format. Otherwise using VS11+ with PS (program stream) video has been reliable.
I don't think it's because your running on a Mac. I thought that the drivers for the Intel Mac's were only certified for XP though. Could be a firewire 800 issue. Maybe while using VS11+ put the cam into the downconvert mode to output standard DV. I would think that if you can capture standard DV in VS11+ then this would eliminate suspecting the firewire 800.

This is not a Vista problem, this is VS 11 issue. I'm having the same exact problem and I'm running XP.
It appears that there are no options to change plug ins. I had to reinstall VS 10 in order to continue working on my project. I wasted my money upgrading to 11. It doesn't capture my Sony HC-7 video and is missing several things from version 10.
I can't say that I'd recommend this software to anyone at this point.
