I'm teaching a course in drama and there is a scene from a movie I would like to show my students, however the background music in the scene does not really convey what I want it to. Is there a way to edit out the music used in the scene and put my own without muting out the actors lines and sound effects in the scenes?
Thank if anyone can help.

In a word, no. Only a pretty sophisticated audio editor might be able to do that. Even then it would be extremely difficult since you would be having to filter out particular sounds and frequencies from what is a single audio track. Almost undoubtedly you would also be eradicating some of the voice sounds as well...
Please remember that VS is only a consumer level package, not a pro program. And in point of fact, I cannot think of any pro-level video editing packages that could do it either.
