Split Audio THEN Split by Scene

Post by jimswinder »

I want to remove the audio from a video THEN split the video "by scene"...but it won't let me split by scene once the audio is removed. I get an error message that says "The clips attributres will be reset to default settings first before you can use Split by Scene". It never resets, so can I assume it is really telling me I have to reset them? I really don't want to have to remove each scenes audio one by one. Can VideoStudio do this, or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks

Jim,

No VS can not. There is a workaround for this, that does require some work. You can split & delete(or just mute) the audio. Then render a video file, that has Video only, no audio. You need to select the Custom option on the Share>Create Video File menu. Press Options, and in the options dialog choose the General tab, and for Data Track choose Video Only. Render your video file. Then start a new project or clear your timeline, insert the video, and now you can split by scene.

Thanks...that worked. How come they don't put in features like this, that to me, would be just common everyday things people would want to do?

Having created "Computer programs" at my workplace involving large groups of users I think the answer is this.

When I sat down and worked out what I intended a program to do, I then had to anticipate the different things that users would then attempt to do. Then I would put in place various 'error traps'.
Take for example ( I am being simplistic here to illustrate an example)
You want someone to enter a date. How easy that should be.

Some people will enter
1 July 2007
01 July 2007
1 Jul 07
Jul 1, 07
one July 2007
July first 2007
01/07/07
01/07/2007

The point I am getting at is that different people will do and try different things. This gets even more complicated when they are let loose with a powerful piece of software such as a video editing program.
Whilst we make suggestions such as Suggested workflow by SJJ1805 for Video Creation in fact there are many different work flows that could be followed and they would all technically be correct.

What I used to do when developing a piece of software would be to grab hold of the most computer illiterate i could find and set them loose on it to see what they did, then alter the program accordingly.

That's fine when you have a relatively small workforce to contend with, now imagine what happens when a piece of software is let loose on a worldwide audience!

The beauty of this user Forum is that we all get to use our software in different ways and so we can share amongst our members little discoveries we have made. We can suggest alternative ways of doing the same thing.

If you think you have made a discovery that could be enhanced by way of a software update - such as globally splitting the audio from the video then why not add a suggestion here:
VideoStudio wish list for future versions

We encourage sensible suggestions and I can confirm that Ulead do monitor that particular post. It does not however imply that all of the suggestions made will be implemented but there is an old saying
"If you don't ask you don't get."
