Creating chapters crashes VS 11
Installing VS 11 after downloading it last Friday was no problem. However, after adding a video; ie, mpg or avi file and then going to SHARE and attempting to create chapters I was limited to only creating them automatically at set intervals is allowed, not manually. Manually was grayed out. And to top it off when I click OK to create them automatically at set intervals a message comes up that an error has occured and VS 11 will shut down. Furthermore, when the chapter menu appears one is not able to see anything but a black screen in the lower left hand portion of the screen and the larger black screen showing where one would manually adjust the chapters is gray as are its play controls.
I was advised by a Ulead tech to install VS 11 on a brand new build of XP after getting this error problem on two other computers that I use. I did a brand new install of XP yesterday and installed VS 11 without any problem. This same difficulty of the chapter making appeared again. I have had both VS 10 and VS 9 running on the other computers for some time without any problem and have been using VS 7, 9, 10 for a little over three years.

The advice is to create a DVD compliant MPEG2 file. clear the timeline by starting a new empty project, going to the share tab and selecting create disc. then importing that previously prepared Video to the Authoring module.
Every post for VS11+ descrbing these same problems is the users DirectX is not up to date.
Even if you think your DirectX is upto date, download the latest release of DirectX 9 (I think it's April or June). There were fixes and necessary updates to version 9.0c
Search on the VS forum and you will see all the problems were resolved by installing the latest Version of DirectX. Same problems posted here.

Ummm... re the chapters, when you first open the chapter page, yes, only the auto-add chapters button is active. But as soon as you drag the jog bar below the preview screen to the right, the Add Chapter (i.e. manually) becomes active.
And you can also add chapter cue marks if you inserted your video clip first into the editor module. These cue marks are then recognised in the burning module if you follow the procedure mentioned by Steve above.
But if, as it seems you are, just inserting an mpeg straight into the burning module with no editing, then simply do as I suggest in my first para above.

Thank you all for your replies.
First, I have tried more than half a dozen different video files, including mpg2 (that I previously had rendered from avi files) and raw avi files into new projects and get the same results.
Second, Direct X is up to date, 9.0c
Third, the jog bar is grayed out to allow manual chapter additions and nothing happens when I move the mouse over it. When I get the preview window with the video file I try clicking on the file first, thinking perhaps it needs to be activated, but nothing happens.
And what is more conclusive that there appears to be a major problem is that when I click on making chapters automatically the new box comes up that an error has occurred and VS11 must shut down. The fact that this is happening on two different computers that both have run VS 9 and 10 without problems is strange.
That I installed a new hard drive and put a new install of XP on one of these machines and then installed VS 11 only to have the same thing with the chapter making happen again is mind boggling.

Add Chapters
Good to see this posting.
I downloaded VS 11+ upgrade and installed okay. Then found no help file, most templates missing and the same problem with add chapters, only difference is that I'm on Vista, although VS 10 works fine with the Vista patch.
Have spent many hours talking to Corel tech response, but they seem to have concluded that it must be my machine.
I have installed VS11+ on XP and it does work okay, but as you are getting the problem in XP, it would seem to indicate some sort of problem.
As regards to the help and templates, I think I should have had a 'contents' pack, the same as when I upgraded to VS10+, but Corel seem to think not.
I'm now at a loss to know what to do as I've been told by Corel that they can't help any further with this issue.

Hi Ron,
What you are indicating is distressing. As I mentioned I spoke with tech support yesterday and Steve, the tech support man, said he had not heard of this problem before. The point that you indicate of VS11 behaving without chapter making capability in Vista, and working OK in XP adds further complication to the situation. Hopefully someone else has run into this problem and has a remedy for it.

RonT -- I beg to differ with Corel. If you bought the downloadable upgrade to VS11, you should have received the URLs for three different files: the first is the main program file. The second was an Extra Contents file (which contains, among other things, the help file, extra templates etc) and the third is a Bonus pack (with extra videos, pictures etc, plus InterVideo WinDVD).
If you did not download these three files, then you don't have the full version installed. Files 1 and 2 must both be installed. File 3 is largely optional.

Hi Ken - thanks for the confirmation.
I'll be contacting Corel to hopefully get the remaining files. Strangely, when I originally discussed this with Corel they seemed unaware of the normal way these upgrades are packaged. I explained that VS10+ upgrade came with a 300mb+ ¡¥contents¡¦ file, but they implied that ¡¥things may now be packaged differently¡¦ with VS11+ as it is the first VS product to be sold by Corel. I tried to explain that there was no way 300mb of ¡¥content¡¦ could be included in the 140mb of the main program, but got nowhere.
Fingers crossed for next time.

This morning I installed VS !!+ on the same computer that I'd installed it last week but on the partition running Vista. No problems with install but the same error message comes up when I try to make chapters automatically, and there is no jog bar in the chapter preview window to allow making the chapters manually. When the error message appears it tells me the program will be shut down. It does this and there are no other error messages from the OS.

Have now managed to re-install in Vista and got the add chapters working both manually and in auto mode.
Not sure why, but for a second time I tried the manual remove program sequence as published by tech help (link below) and then re-installed and it worked. First time I tried this I couldn't find some of the specified reg entires, this time I could, so something had changed.
Try this, following the steps carefully.

Good luck!
